I've had 4 glasses of water and 3 mugs of peppermint tea today. I love coffee but when I had a cup of decaff yesterday made my nausea worse.

Decaff does that to me too. I'm a great coffee lover. Love it.

Out of interest as I'm not on atkins, what is giving up caffeine meant to do?

Read lately that drinking coffee helps one to avoid heart problems. (was a doc blog, not the star :)) So as usual - bit confused

Atkins recommends avoiding caffeine because it may trigger insulin not sure if other plans make the same recommendations.... just a point about decaff coffee, some i can drink and others i cant apparently they are made differently so whilst i can have nescafe gold blend i cant have maxwell hse, weird i know but u may find another brand might not make u nauseous

lol avstar u prob didnt leave them to dry enough... i bought mixed seeds in H&B on offer to make my crackers so they were sesame/pumpkin/ flax/sunflower etc crackers lol i also added some garlic salt to them

tink i am same as u dont like almonds but like almond flour lol, glad i am not the only weird one, tho still steering away from nuts as much as poss at moment

  • Good morning everyone :hello:
Feeling a bit rough today as I have a cold & sore throat starting :( Also got a headache but that could be the 3 glasses of wine I had last night!!
Going to have a lovely hot bath this morning, hopefully that will help.
Heard from daughter & she sounds cheery this morning. Was told by teachers not to make any noise after 11pm last night or they could get arrested by police as that is the law!! :rotfl: Ah, the innocence of a Year 7!!:rotfl:
    Anyway, menu for today
    B - blues/rasps & cream
L - not sure yet, might be out with eldest daughter as she's off school so may treat her to lunch somewhere?
D - not sure of this either? Will report back later.
Not a very comprehensive menu today is it?!
    Have a good day everyone.

Yeah - I'm a bit funny about caffiene... Atkins says it can trigger insulin making it harder to work with low-carb, but certain levels of caffiene can have other benefits and certainly green tea (which has more caffiene than black tea, but less than coffee) has been linked to weightloss.

I'm going to start avoiding it when I start induction on Monday, but the fact is I have had green tea all the way through my "general low carb" plan and I really felt that it helped.

  • The one I did before allowed coffee but only a couple of cups a day at most, not strong and with cream - this time though I am not drinnking any to see if it makes a difference.

Well even with TOTM and falling off the wagon somewhat I only put on 1lb so I'm pretty pleased with that - won't take long to shift that back off again.

HC - have added the hotchoc recipe to my ever expanding collection thank you again it was a life saver.

    Yesterday for me:

    B: none
L: salad with corned beef, hard-boiled egg, green beans and mayo
D: roast turkey, cabbage, broccoli cheese; SF jelly and cream

For as long as I can remember, I've avoided caffeine whenever reasonably possible. And because I'm not used to it, it makes me a bit 'high' when I do sometimes have it (ordinary Diet Coke in pub or restaurant, for example) - I feel almost drunk, in a way.

OK, shykins, will not buy soya flour :( Bet it's vile anyway!

Avstar, I love the quiche crust made with almond flour but can't seem to find anything else made with it that I like. I hate the grittiness of it in cakes and muffins. :( But I want to find the ULTIMATE pancake recipe in time for the 24th (I think that's Pancake Day?)!

How is life with you today, aliasojo?

Badger, hope you're feeling better now - enjoy your long weekend!

JPretty, well done on the weight loss this week. :T:T:T

Have a fabulous [strike]dirty[/strike] weekend, Saz and Gilly!

I always drink decaff, but never instant. Instant is slightly higher in carbs than ground coffee (I use decaff beans in my machine).

I can tell you how they make instant (which isn't actually coffee  ) if you want me to.................... ;)

The IPD recommends no caffeine as it does trigger insulin production. I've been caffeine-free for 14 months and don't miss it at all. :D

  • Hello everyone! I am currently reading through this VAST thread and have been for days! Could you all stop chattin' for a couple of days 'til I catch up??? ;)

I was a full on Atkins person a few years ago. Slimmed down nicely and then I am not too sure what happened! It was like second nature to me and I basically saved myself the bother of the biscuit and crisp aisles when I went shopping. They didn't interest me.

I am very strict and basically stuck to "induction" for years. I figured doing that if I didn't calculate properly then I was only ever a little over the 20grams. Actually as I write this I realise I scunnered myself with it and the lack of variety! (Not happening now as I have already had linseed/flax bread and OMG!!! Sarnies on the Atkins.... who woulda thought eh?)

So... I have convinced myself finally to get back on it because it is the ONLY plan that has EVER worked for me. I have the additional problem of being a nurse and all the "stick" I get about how I should know better. The fact is I do but it still gets tiresome!

So I started and am surprised how easy it was to get back into it! I have lost "10 lbs in 18 days" and am full of energy (having passed through the other side of the crushing headache).

This is the way forward and you lot are a hoot so I plan to come in and play!

Ted... I want a before and after photo 'cos you seem a little inspirational!

    I haven't got much to lose... 5ft 1 and a fart "today" 10 stone!

Nice to meet you all :kisses3:
