Low carb berger A 90 gram hamburger guaranteed by the Swedish beef, served embedded in fresh leaves of iceberg lettuce with cheese, tomato, onion and Max original dressing.
And here this looks a nice low carb salad ready for take away
It will be great when we can find good low carb ready meals in our high street fast food places. Perhaps if anyone spots a restaurant or chain offering a low carb option someone could post a link. A bit of free advertising may encourage others to take the plunge.
I'd highly recommend Tapas places. They don't seem to mention that they are low carb friendly but they certainly are and I find it extremely easy to eat out with non LC friends without any uncomfortableness - no asking for things to be taken away or added.
There's plenty of independents all over the place but there is one chain - La Tasca: http://www.latasca.co.uk/find-us.html. They quite often offer money off vouchers if you sign up the the website as well as regularly 'tapas for a tenner' so MSE and LC!
Mmm just thinking about it is making me hungry. Boquerones (anchovies in oil), chorizo and Albondigas (meatballs) drool.0 -
Badger, I keep looking at that spinach bread recipe, wondering whether to try it. If you recommend it, perhaps I'll give it a go. Team away day? Do tell. Rugby?
HanSpan, thanks for the heads-up about La Tasca. I ordered some Tesco vouchers yesterday for dinner next month, but I reluctantly chose somewhere else as I wasn't sure of what hidden carbs might be in the tapas dishes. I'd love to try it though - the menu looks mouth-watering!
Shy, you can definitely make that recipe without using the dried mushrooms. It just won't be quite as earthy and mushroomy, perhaps. I buy a huge tub of dried mushrooms from Costco (there I go again!), which last for ever it seems, and are the same price as a tiny supermarket tub.0 -
hanspan u are right we went to la tasca a month or so ago and it was great for me, they are doing lunch for 2 for £10 at the moment... not tried the tapas for a tenner, i understand u can eat as much as u like anyone tried it?
hc if u ordered the tesco meal vouchers u can use them in ANY of the restaurants tesco offer. i ordered bella italia ones and used them in la tasca... another place good for lowcarbers is nandos, whole cooked chicken u cant go wrong lol
right am off to gym (watch my halo shine lol)

hi there, menu for yesterday;
B- flax/almond cake thing that didn't quite work!
L- BBQ chicken salad
D- mushroom and cheese omlette then Mercy's mascopone choc desert (was mega LUSH but VERY rich)
snacks- manderin, apple
Badger, that tofu desert looks fab so that's on the cards!
If I could just clarify something?..... When looking at labels, is it the total carbs or the "which sugars" bit I should check? Told that under 5g carbs per 100g/mls is considered low but kale is 10g carbs/100g and "of which sugars" 0.1g carbs. Kale has to be low carb so am presuming it must be the latter number I should be checking? It seems lotsa things are high overall, then "of which sugars" is low.0 -
Pilla, shykins is the best one to answer this but she's off to the gym (makes me feel so guilty!).
On British packets you need to count total carbs, not just the sugars.
Although kale seems high at 10% carb, it's so light that you probably needn't worry - unless you eat a whole packet!0 -

I asked this also and shy answered that its all the carbs you count. But then i dont know because iv seen a thing called net carbs and its something to do with the carbs that are of fiber which you dont count.
Even tho it says sugars there may also be other carbs that you need to count as i read in Dr B's book that alchohol carbs turn into glucose but then they are not listed as sugar carbs but do turn into sugar thus raising blood suagars relesing insulin and this being the fat hormone we gain weight.
This also brings me back to atkins bars as Dr B hinted that they are not good for you and have a lot of hidden carbs ie the alchohol ones.
Just seen a lovely recipe for cauliflower rice i will have to have it for tea. That blackened steak is so delicious but i cant eat it another night.Atkins started 26 Jan 09 so far lost 14lb 7lb to go0 -

It is a bit confusing, but in America the total carb count includes fibre and the net carb total is the amount of 'useable' carbs ie with the fibre total deducted.
In Britain, the total carb figure is already the net carb figure - it already has the fibre total deducted.
probably shykins will tell me've i've got that wrong coz i'm a bit dim!:o lol
This is why it's necessary to be a bit cautious when reading American carb counters or nutrition labels.
hope that helps:)

Team away day? Do tell. Rugby?
lol i loathe team away days with a passion! The ones i've been on seem to major on fake buddiness and making peeps do stuff they don't want to do:rolleyes:...... or maybe that's just my jaundiced view.... situation normal there! :rotfl:
Have a good day all
