Hiya!
I don't know if Atkins itself can be vegetarian but I think we have at least one low carb veggie amongst us. theonly'gaye'inthevillage springs to mind, try searching gaye's posts.
Best of luck!

Morning, folks
Wow, that choc mascarpone recipe sounds good, Mercy! Think I'll get some mascarpone to keep in the fridge for those little emergency situations.
Went to a 60th birthday party last night and so ate my 'dinner' at 4.30 p.m. as I thought the buffet would have little I could eat - but I needn't have worried.
Yesterday:
B: none
L: bacon and Brie salad
D1: sausages, blue cheesy leeks, broccoli; strawberries and cream
D2 (): chicken leg, sliced meats, salad, coleslaw; 2 glasses of wine :A
I gave in and watched the Jamie programme on pork. I managed not to throw anything at the screen, but WHY does he talk to his audience as if we're 10 years old and why does he have to be so coarse? Rant over.
But it was pretty interesting and I will definitely be cooking belly and shoulder of pork - they looked scrummy!
JPretty, I wish you'd have a word with my OH - he's a recently diagnosed Type-2 and is following his doctor's advice on eating: i.e. high-carb, low fat. And takes 6 tablets a day.
With regard to veggie Atkins, both Gaye and Tinkerbell (who also posts on here and has lost loads of weight low-carbing) are veggies. Try to get hold of a copy of Rose Elliot's Vegetarian Low-Carb Diet (Amazon have put the wrong picture up, but it's the right book). She has a fantastic cook book too. I have both, even though I'm not veggie.sw start date 23/09/2013 4 st 8 pounds to go....as of 21/10/13 not 3 stone 7 to go for first target. updated 18/11/13 now 2 stone 10lbs to go to first target.0 -

If I eat 2 pieces of even brown bread with in 1 hur my bloods go to 9.2 which is igh levels. If I eatlow carbs it stays below 6.9 Does he test his bloods?
My OH was also diagnosed in November (right at the beginning, so it's now three full months)! He was initially prescribed 2 x metformin twice a day, which did absolutely nothing - BG in the teens all through November. Diabetic nurse then added a morning gliclazide, which also did very little - BG between 10 and 17 before meals.
Finally she added an evening gliclazide, which has brought him right down, thank goodness. He bounces between 5 and 9 now, which is acceptable, if not ideal. If that final tablet hadn't done the trick he would have been on insulin at the beginning of January. He just seems to be very unlucky. Some people pop a metformin in the morning and can forget about it, pretty much.
He's fanatical about avoiding added sugar but he eats granary bread, pasta, rice, potatoes and fruit.
Sorry, chaps, off topic, I know.0 -

there is an american site where there are lots of lowcarb vegetarians if u do a google u will be amazed what comes up, sort of shows those people who think all we do is eat animal fat doesnt it
HC i fear he talks to them like they are 10 cos that is how a lot of people act... i mean really if u buy cheap meat how can u NOT know that animal has not been treated pretty rotten? its obvious isnt it?

Hi jprettypicture2,
yep, I've been vegetarian for 15? years and started low carbing nearly 2 weeks ago. It's a myth that we're all pale pasty and thin! (if only:))
I'm not following Atkins exactly but have cut out all high carb stuff like potatoes, bread, rice, cous-cous, pasta sugar etc. I haven't cut out fruit because I think I need the vitamins (am I the only one who hasn't had a cold or flu this winter?).
So for breakfast I always have 1/2 grapefruit (I have a theory it's good for cholesterol as well) and pretend bacon egg and tomato in some combination or other.
Lunch is usually vegetable soup or salad or omelette
Some dinner ideas:-
nut roast (can also be made into burger things)
Quorn curry (with salad instead of rice)
Quorn fillets with combination of yoghurt, pesto, chick peas, cheese
cauliflower cheese
stir fry
courgette parsnip and goats cheese bakes
Soya mince can be used to make lots of things including shepherds pie with cauliflower mash, bolognese etc
Hope this helps.
I don't know what being 'pm'd' is; I hope it doesn't hurt!
I don't know how to search through the threads unless I look at each page, but I don't suppose that is what is required. As I've said before I DON'T DO PUTERS! (coz I'm stupid!) Eg I've just pressed on an icon, several times, and it HASN'T APPEARED!Vegetarian. Have cut out all high carb food. Not following any particular plan.Started 20/1/2009. Weight lost so far 29lbs.
