I used to make almond cakes
You use ground almonds, splenda, egg and butter.
I can't remember the recipe anymore does anybody else still have this.0 -
very true saz, it jus annoys me when people say its TOO expensive to eat healthily... no sorry it isnt u can get a stewpack for less than a pound, 3lbs a carrot for a quid etc etc ..... oops sorry am off again lol
Depends what you have near you though.....I dont have a butcher or greengrocer in my town. The nearest decent butcher to me is a 30 mile round trip. There is one a little nearer but he has a bad reputation and his shop always looks dingy and the meat looks grey.
Lol....I quoted your veg post when I should have quoted your meat one. :rotfl:
I do want to buy a bigger freezer though so I can buy in bulk more and just do one butcher trip.Herman - MP for all!0 -
alias u werent meant to read that bit i wrote it small
i live in middle of nowhere so my butcher is a bit of a trot too, hence the ordering of meat packs i got a big stand up freezer and put in the garage tho the pack i get only takes a couple of drawers up
nimpoppy search the thread for instant bread, use almond flour and add sweetener for the cake version

Shykins, you're quite right in your rant about meat! I do have one butcher in a village near me but, my goodness, he charges! People come from miles around to buy from him. I'll stick with Costco but I would like to know their sources.
I used to buy my eggs from the local farm shop, only they're no longer organic because the farmer can't afford the organic feed any more - he also supplies supermarkets (probably evil Mr T). Otherwise I bite the bullet and buy them from supermarkets, although I'm trying to economise so I bought free-range but non-organic the other day - so maybe I'll go back to the farm shop: they're half the price.
Veg I'll get from anywhere, I'm not fussy. My nearest supermarket is Waitrose and I'm trying to avoid it and go a little further afield to avoid paying their prices. I do have a Morrisons quite near but I hate it - though their cookies are divine (ahem!) and they do great (cheapish) frozen asparagus. Sainsbury's I quite like.
I popped into M&S earlier (trawling the shelves for yellow stickers) - got £10-worth of salmon steaks for £5 cos it was on its use-by - that's for the family tonight as I'm not keen on fish.
I didn't go for the dine in for £10 but thought I'd make a home-made version of the chicken with pesto and mozzarella*, from looking at the ingredients on the packet. It's all prepared so I'll report back tomorrow. In fact it looks so delicious that my DDs (who are getting salmon ) are jealous!
ETA: *I had all the ingredients except spinach (which I'll serve with the salmon for the others) and mozzarella. Just adding this because I know sometimes it's more expensive to make things yourself than buy when on a deal.0 -

'scuse me....it's food we're talking about here...I have an inbuilt homing device.
I want a freezer like that too but no room and no garage only a big shed but so many sites say freezers cant cope with cold surroundings. We're in the Highlands so get very cold Winters sometimes and I'm worried about shelling out for something that wont work properly if it's sited in a shed.Herman - MP for all!0 -
Just catching up with the gay adoptive parents thread, aliasojo. I am certainly not going to get involved but, as a fairly objective bystander, yours is one of the few voices of reason on that thread! I'm cleverer than you - No, I'm cleverer than you! Reminds me why I stick to this thread only. :rolleyes:0
