In the atkins cook receipies it says to use soy flour. Where can I buy this from and at whay price?

Bought a 500 Gram pack at our local Holland & Barret yesterday for 99p.
I used to be indecisive but now I am not sure.

I agree with badger - my taste buds have really changed and things I wouldn't have liked before I'm really getting into - cauli :rotfl:

By the way - tried to make cauli rice last night and boiled it for 10 mins, squeezed through potato ricer and the fried in a little butter...is this right?
It went well with the corned beef hash thingy I'd made but not sure if this is the easiest/tastiest way of doing it?

Badger - I wantched the programme about slim people the other night - it didn't make any mention of whether eating different foods affects people, they just counted calories and asked the test subjects to double their calorie intake, they just stuffed themselves with tons of cake, biccies, pizzas and pastry so no wonder the put lots of weight on. I'd be intestered to see if they would have put as much weight on by doubling their calorie intake but in a low carb way?
  • HC, it is the M&S chicken pesto I'm afraid. It's gorgeous!! 2.4g of carbs per half pack. Wasn't there a mention of someone making it themselves a few pages back? Gaye? Had a quick look but couldn't find it so maybe I'm imagining it!!
Oh Ted, I'm not sure I can face your marrow bones after all!! Looked at your link for the stock for soup & it was talking about roasting the bones & then eating the marrow!! _pale_ I know this bit wasn't about making soup stock but it kind of put me off the idea. I'm only funny you know!! Was thinking about buying a cooked gammon hock & using that instead? Would have got one today to try but the Co-op had run out so maybe at the weekend, unless I am advised otherwise!!
nim, I thought your 'horrible combination' of cauli mash & steak sounded quite nice actually!!:rotfl:
Saz, hope you had a good night last night, seeing as you haven't posted today I'm assuming you did!!
Hope everyone has a lovely weekend.
  • 'is nibs does something similar (when he isn't on strike!) with Quorn fillets, chick peas and pesto. When I was in Morrisons the other week they were selling a bag of 6 fillets for 99p. It seemed to be their normal price rather than an offer so for those on a budget (and who isn't!) even if you aren't veggie, they work out quite cheap. Just got a packet out of the freezer. Protein 13.1g, carbs 6.1g ,fibre 4.9g. Fat only 1.9g, but you can't have everything, can you? Just keep adding the yoghurt!:D
This was what I was looking for HC. ames had posted an idea for chicken & yoghurt & pesto & Gaye was replying to it. Unfortunately I can't seem to do 2 quotes at the same time but ames post was on page 153 I think.

well have to say i NEVER buy meat in a supermarket (unless u count M&S when they have dine in lol)... i buy big meat freezer packs from my local butcher, discuss with him where it comes from etc etc, the pack i buy works out approx £2 a pound for which i get stew steak, chick breast, pork chops, chiploatas and mince, why dont people realise butchers are cheaper and the meat so much better!!???!!! also got 5lbs skirt steak for £3 a pound

my eggs come from the local farm and veg comes from a market stall which he gets fresh up in london the same morning so lasts twice as long as supermarket stuff.. in fact i said to hub the amount of things i buy at the supermarket now are very few

ok off me high horse now sorry.. will post this and answer some of the other stuff in a non high horse post lol

lol better out than in hun:D xx but you've reminded me tho - i must look into getting a pack like you get from the butcher - far more cost effective as well as better quality, as you say.

ooh ted i can remember sucking the marrow out of bones when i was a kid!!

hi poppy and welcome...ok soy flour yes u can buy in H&B but the stuff is NASTY beyond belief nasty with a salty twang, not to mention all the bad press soy is getting... sorry but the thought of instant omelettes just make me feel bad lol

i am afraid the only way not to gain your weight back is to stick to this all the time, yes add extras but remove them again when u start to gain, as i have said before i allow myself 5lbs leeway and thats it

i heard abut the prog why some are thin but more i heard the more it didnt make sense to me, as usual these people can present it anyway they want and a truly unbiased look at things seems very unlikely

no need to be bored with your grub take a look at loads of the recipes people have mentioned on here or do a google search, look for someone called lindasue here website is brilliant, its genaw something or other

True - the program's conclusion was basically "we're all different shapes and sizes" I guess its aim, if it had one, was to battle discrimination against fat people... so not particularly helpful for those of us trying to change.
