I've just pm'd a Board Guide asking if they would please re-instate the low carb thread. I dont know if it will help or not but OS is for all of us equally so I hope they consider the request seriously.
Perhaps a few more pm requests might help?Herman - MP for all!0 -

I don't think it will do any good - she pulled my thread on Nutrition old style and put on the discussion board and will not discuss the reason she stated that it was not moneysaving and had turned into a discussion. I asked her to remove all the TV programme discussions and move them to the discussion board where they were already being discussed but she ignored me. She selectively moves about 5 or 6 a day usually from new people (nearly all the threads I've contributed to have been moved) and lets stupid chat threads and long running 'clubby' threads dominate the first page

Thanks for the welcome - I did read the thread whilst half low carbing last week - took some of the recipes off and bought everything I need yesterday so its a baking day for me today. Wish me luck cos my family are going to think I've gone mad today lol
Not made the oopsies before but have made a bread which uses the same ingredients and that turned out well so hopefully these will. Quick question - do any of you use jam watered down to make a kind of fruit sauce? If you do which one do you use?0 -
Personally I avoid jams and marmelades completely - I've eaten raspberries throughout, so if I need a fruit sauce or spread I just blend those up with a bit of water (depending on desired consistency)
Feeling a bit naughty this morning - I was stuck for a breakfast dish (only 1 egg in the box and a bit fed up of mushrooms), so I made some porridge. Yes I know! But I made it with soya milk, hemp protein and coconut (no fruit or sweetener) - and oats are slower burners than most carbs.
My grandmother low-carbed (maintained a perfect figure) successfully for years but still ate porridge each day, and every vegan I've read about low-carbing still uses oats in their cooking. So I'll see how it goes! Now that I've got a pair of scales I can instantly check whether it's going the wrong way...Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0 -

Low-carbohydrate diets better for diabetes patientsI do hope you follow the link to enjoy Dr Malcom Kendrick's blunt no nonsense words. I was laughing out loud when I got to the last sentence.
For those who enjoy the science the full text of the Cochrane review is online.
Low glycaemic index, or low glycaemic load, diets for diabetes mellitus
the Plain English summary is as follows
Low glycaemic index, or low glycaemic load, diets for diabetes mellitus
Nutritional factors affect blood glucose levels, however there is currently no universal approach to the optimal dietary strategy for diabetes. Different carbohydrate foods have different effects on blood glucose and can be ranked by the overall effect on the blood glucose levels using the so-called glycaemic index. By contributing a gradual supply of glucose to the bloodstream and hence stimulating lower insulin release, low glycaemic index foods, such as lentils, beans and oats, may contribute to improved glycaemic control, compared to high glycaemic index foods, such as white bread. The so-called glycaemic load represents the overall glycaemic effect of the diet and is calculated by multiplying the glycaemic index by the grammes of carbohydrates.
We identified eleven relevant randomised controlled trials, lasting 1 to 12 months, involving 402 participants. Metabolic control (measured by glycated haemoglobin A1c (HbA1c), a long-term measure of blood glucose levels) decreased by 0.5% HbA1c with low glycaemic index diet, which is both statistically and clinically significant. Hypoglycaemic episodes significantly decreased with low glycaemic index diet compared to high glycaemic index diet.
