when offered naughty goodies - if im being good its easy to politely say no - if im feeling weak - and yes i do see it as a bit of a weakness - then its very hard and sometimes as we all know i do eat things i shouldnt
can you turn that view around? they're not goodies, and you can be strong by resisting them! if you see them as goodies and that you're weak for wanting them, it's always going to make it harder?
i see sugary things as poison - so while i'll happily make them for OH, i won't touch them myself.

see now i had a ''discussion'' with some friends along those lines - they were giving macdonalds a right slagging saying how it was complete poo and they would never eat it - so i asked them why they took there children and bought it for them at least once a week ? my question really was '' if you think its so bad why do you feed your children it ?'' - they were bit speechless and hubby rapidly changed the subject
i know with your hub its different as he is an adult and can decide for himself what he wants to eat - my hub ( since he reached his goal weight and knows now he has a very high carb tolerance - lucky !!!!!! ) is the same - he gets asked left over spuds or bin ? toast or not ?
actually im not sure the relevance now of that but hey ho - still dont get how you could be so vehemently against something nutritionally but allow your children to eat it week in week out !!!:j MFi3 wannabee :j

Agree with you there Daisy! My cousin has the same argument against people who accuse her of mistreatment for bringing her kids up vegetarian (the same way she was brought up). She believes that meat is unhealthy, unnatural and unethical, so why would she feed it to her baby???Mortgage | £145,000Unsecured Debt | [strike]£7,000[/strike] £0 Lodgers | |0

i won't comment on the mcdonalds cos i got lynched elsewhere on this forum for suggesting that a poster would have fed her child more nutritionally by allowing them to lick the floor in mcdonalds than eating the food
As for cooking carbs for OH - I have to. he's a keen sportsman, and plays football and rugby as well as running marathons and competing in iron man contests. he did low carb with me for a bit, but he couldn't do any sport at all. so he has the same as me with a portion of carbs for dinner, usually has a pudding, and cereal for breakfast
does that make sense?0 -

Signatures of corn and confinement
Americans spend >100 billion dollars on restaurant fast food each
year; fast food meals comprise a disproportionate amount of both
meat and calories within the U.S. diet. We used carbon and
nitrogen stable isotopes to infer the source of feed to meat
animals, the source of fat within fries, and the extent of fertilization
and confinement inherent to production. We sampled food
from McDonald’s, Burger King, and Wendy’s chains, purchasing
>480 servings of hamburgers, chicken sandwiches and fries within
geographically distributed U.S. cities: Los Angeles, San Francisco,
Denver, Detroit, Boston, and Baltimore. From the entire sample set
of beef and chicken, only 12 servings of beef had 13C < 21‰; for
these animals only was a food source other than corn possible. We
observed remarkably invariant values of 15N in both beef and
chicken, reflecting uniform confinement and exposure to heavily
fertilized feed for all animals. The 13C value of fries differed
significantly among restaurants indicating that the chains used
different protocols for deep-frying: Wendy’s clearly used only corn
oil, whereas McDonald’s and Burger King favored other vegetable
oils; this differed from ingredient reports. Our results highlighted
the overwhelming importance of corn agriculture within virtually
every aspect of fast food manufacture.

At least most UK beef does spend most of it's life outdoors eating mostly grass. However I've no information on where UK McDonalds sources it beef but I'd guess it's probably mostly imported.

Hi everyone - I've been lurking on this board for a while now and thought I would like to join in.
I've been low carbing for nearly 3 months now and lost just over 1 stone out of the 1.5 - 2 stone I originally wanted to lose.
I've been taking a few supplements and read most of the info that Ted has posted on them (and other things too!!). I don't know what effect each one has had on me, but I have just begun to take coconut oil in warm water - smells lovely and after 2 days I did feel noticably happier. After about 2 months of the IPD plan I found that I wasn't so tired in the afternoon - no more midday naps for me!! But I am still ready for bed at 10pm and will fall asleep at the drop of a hat. I was also taking the normal vitamin D from D&H and have now changed to the proper D3 and I shall be monitoring myself to see if there are any changes.

In answer to tink's comment YES i DO feel better when I stick to it. but i completely lapsed last thursday with the Mars Bar. But I did enjoy it.
I have a real chocolatey tooth rather than a sweet tooth, and i have had heaps less than before I started low carbing becuase the cravings have been a lot less. that said though I have found the low carbing a nightmare for my guts which already had a tendency towards constipative IBS. on thursday i was suffering the result of having had to take a laxative which left me weak and feeling sorry for myself. Sugar seemed the ideal answer! Fortunately now the aloe vera capsules you recommended seem to be sorting it out.
But I have just spent a weekend in london with my four closest girlfriends celebrating my impending birthday and although i did keep the carbs down compared to normal i did have some, and LOTS of alcohol. ( i even licked scrambled egg and smoked salmon out of a M & S sandwich and threw away the bread!)
I fear my weigh in tomorrow will not be good. But I think the important thing for me is that i have now found a way of eating I can handle 6 days out of 7 which also helps me lose weight. I am content to be a low carber on normal days for the rest of my life. But can I just get my 40th birthday next weekend out of the way first...:rotfl:
your dedication is an inspiration to me tink!

Nice to know it also produces significant increases in postprandial fat oxidationhave now changed to the proper D3 and I shall be monitoring myself to see if there are any changes.
I suppose that's a complicated way of saying you are trying to fill the Vitamin d bath but as you are doing so some Vitamin d is constantly draining away down the plughole.
