Usborne Books

Hi
I did Usborne books for a number of years possibly 4 or 5. I won their holiday incentive and did very well in their tables.
However, looking back, I earnt very little as I ploughed a lot of money back into my business. I found that I was encouraged to buy "stock", although this isn't supposed to happend according to DSA guidelines. This encouragement was subversive in some ways. When on training events they would show you successful organisers and how they would set out their stalls - these people would have 100's of books and not just the basic starter pack. These people have to buy these books but would argue this is there choice. Well it is, but in my opinion the company should be showing you how to set up using your kit. However, they always refer to this as a starter kit and to make a decent amount you really do need to be investing in more books.
I think overall I was generally successful, but I didn't make a huge amount of money but I certainly enjoyed doing it and I met some of the nicest people I have ever met.
It can be quite hard to get into some places as the book people sell Usborne books at considerably reduced prices and these books can also be picked up in book shops, although the standard Usborne response is that they are only limited offers but people will wait for these offers and it's very frustrating to be only getting 24% basic commission on a book or 20% if you are selling to a school (these rates may have changed since I did it) and then to find it at a 75% reduction on your kids preschool sales table.
If I was to take up this sort of business now, I would be looking for something which is well known but can't be found in other shops.0 -

All depends on your catchment area. A lot of the nurseries, playgroups etc I had ( granted about 20 years ago) were council run, and the parents were not interested in buying books.

I've found that despite the recession, parents don't stop spending money on educational books for their children - They are much more likely to buy a ten pound fantastic book than a thirty pound computer game.
Both me and my Mum are involved with Usborne and she has just taken an order for £1200 from a school in a 'poor' area, which was raised through the kids doing a sponsored read. I'm the same throughout June and July - so many events. Definitely no market saturation around my way either!
It was one of things I worried about when I first started three years ago but I've always been busy...despite having 5 people in my team who all live within a mile radius we still get double booked.0 -
You can enjoy a "no limits" earnings opportunity building a home-based business selling over 1500 Usborne books to families, schools, pre-school organisations, libraries and community groups.
Simply by becoming an Usborne Organiser.
Usborne books continue to thrive in a growing market, even when money is tight. Families cut down on luxuries, not their children's education. Children's books are traditionally recession-proof.
Uniquely, Usborne has a second and economically unaffected, fast-growing major market - schools.
There are over 700,000 new babies born in the UK every year, plus 3,000,000 UK children at Primary School, and a further 3,000,000 at Secondary level.
Which means the potential for you to earn a substantial income selling Usborne books is massive.
You can sell Usborne books wherever you choose:
Parties
Fêtes, fairs and county shows
Toddler Groups, Nurseries, child minders and home educators
Preschools, schools and educational establishments
Libraries, literacy organisations and community groups
Your business, your success!
Your business is flexible; you decide when and how much
you work and you can even take your children with you.
There are no targets to meet and your business can
be as big as you want - and so can your earnings!
Usborne commission structure
It is illegal for a promoter or a participant in a trading
scheme to persuade anyone to make a payment by
promising benefits from getting others to join a scheme.
Do not be misled by claims that high earnings are easily
achieved.
Reap the benefits from day one
Earn up to 26% commission on everything you sell from day one.
FREE books for your family.
Incredible incentives; all expenses paid foreign travel, weekend breaks, VIP awards dinners and much more.

Hope this helps you but please pm me if I can help any further.0 -

This is an interesting thread (but not had a chance to read the whole thread) and came across it because I did a search on Usborne books.
Basically I'm writing because my mum has started up with Usborne books. I'm no longer living in the UK or at home so I don't have a chance to keep an eye on my parents as much as I would like to.
I'm concerened that this is some sort of pyramid scheme that could collapse resulting in my folks loosing lots of money.
My mum is now what they call a "recuriter" for Usborne, I however have no idea what that means...."An eye for an eye leaves the whole world blind" - Mahatma Gandhi0 -
Anyone who joins Usborne can be a recruiter. It's a way of earning more money.
Basically your mum will have started with an investment of no more than £38. For this she will have received over £100 worth of children's books published by Usborne (who have been going over 30 years and are one of the worlds leading publishers of children's books)
You mum can then earn in two ways -
1) she can earn solely by selling the books to schools, libraries and parents and earning a commission of 24%.
2) she can sell as mentioned above and she can recruit people. Basically she can train people to do the same as her and earn a commission on their sales. there is no such title as a recruiter but I imagine your mum has started to build a team in this way.
Usborne encourage you to get the money from your customers up front, by taking orders from them and then delivering direct to the customer. For larger orders from schools and libraries there is an invoicing system, whereby your mu would get the order pass it to our head office who would then pass the commission on to your mum.
Usborne are members of the Direct Selling Association which means we have strict codes to adhere to. I've been with them for nearly 3 years, and have won awards, been on travel incentives to France, Mexico and the USA.
She's made a great decision - she has no reason to lose any money at all. You can rest easy! Usborne Books at Home are all over the world, not sure where you live but maybe you could speak to a local agent who will put your mind at rest. Well done for looking out for your mum!0 -
Hi
Is anyone in the Midlands area and if so would they like to refer me? I'm interested in joining.
Also what are the costs like for the stationery and forms/leaflets etc. This is one of the things holding me back I was told they were pricey.Student Moneysaver going to Paris next year! Trying to save!
