What do you all think of this month's joining offer? nothing to pay for one month. I think it's brilliant!0

Absolutely Fab Offer Caroline!
I've been doing it a few months now with a toddler and a baby and I love it - and the kids love the books. You earn in relation to the effort you put in -and the £100 first offer is easy to make. The support from everyone else is fab and we have a forum full of ideas of how to make sales. In fact, there's quite a few of the forum regulars on here I see!!!0 -
ok, I am still considering this! I just cannot make up my mind whether to try it or not! and I know it is only £10 to join at the moment. I am just worrying that if I do join and it's not for me - what then?? And how many schools and nurseries would I have to visit to get a good customer base going? Do I sell to parents at the schools/nursery or do I sell directly to the school/nursery who pay from their budget?
How are you all finding this given the current financial climate too? Are people still buying books from you given that money is probably quite tight for lots of families just now?

I joined a couple of weeks ago & when I mentioned to my daughter's preschool that I'd just become an Usborne Independent Organiser - they became very excited! I'm doing a community book pledge for them (where I hope to get a minimum of £500 of donations from local businesses & then Usborne give them an extra £300 in free books!!), a possible sponsored "ready, steady, listen" event & they want me to have a stand & do a talk at their Open Evening in May.
A committee member asked for a catalogue & some order forms - she's going around her office & a few friends & family as they all LOVE Usborne books & hopefully I'll pick up lots of lovely orders next Friday when I get back from holiday!
No matter what the price of the starter kit - you're onto a winner. I'm always buying Usborne Books so I would have reached £100 without selling to preschool & friends & family, just by me buying for my 2 children & for presents for my children's friends Birthdays!0 -

Hi Donna,
It's going up by £5 a week during March (this week is £15, next week £20). A brilliant low start up cost for a business!!! Why don't you just give it a try? You don't have much to lose. It's pretty easy to get your first £100 order in just by showing your catalogues around friends/family or having a starter party. Once you've done the first £100 order, you have no other commitment at all to Usborne. So you can take it or leave it. Also, if you join and decide it's not for you, you have 14 days cooling period where you can send your kit back.
There are soooo many ways of getting customers - lots of different places to go and sell at. As for selling to schools/nurseries, you can do both. Hold events at the schools to help raise free books for them, or try and sell direct to the schools. We offer fab discounts (up to 40% for schools)!!
To be honest, sales are not being much affected by the "credit crunch". Usborne's sales are up on last year's. Childrens education is the last thing parents stop spending on. And our books are fantastic! They really do sell themselves.
Let us know if you decide to go for it!!

Hi Lisa, thanks for that. am going to be giving it some more thought. My problem is all my family are either in Scotland or Wales or even Australia and I am stuck somewhere in middle England! Obviously I know lots of friends with children but I don't want to make them feel obligated to buy from me.
Thanks again, Donna.BSC #215/No.1 Jan 09 Club0 -

Thanks
I have sent you a pm and would love to welcome you to our team if you have not found anyone else.
Good luck with Usborne. Whoever you chose to join up with I am sure you will be in good hands.0 -
Hi Donna
I hardly ever sell to friends or family, only when they come to me. Being 10 miles down the road from me, I can definitely sort you out with leads and local contacts. The local team often double book themselves.
Most of us lot here are in the same division, Hamsterholly, star9 and Looneylee or Tracey, Tamara and Lise!0 -
Hi
I am thinking about doing Usborne books, even if just for my self and family to cover the £100 in 12 weeks requirements. So I have 2 questions for anyone with the time to answer:
Is there anybody who could refer me, I am in the Glasgow-ish area?
If I did want to develop this as a business, is there still scope to do it. I mean, are there so many people saturating the market that it would be hard for an inexperienced sales bod like me?
