Hi everyone,
I've just signed up with Usborne Books as an organiser and I'm waiting on my starter kit to arrive. I was just wondering do any established organisers have any tips for me? I would love to hear of other peoples experiences with the company. Thanks0 -
Congratulations and welcome! I've only been working as an Usborne organiser since January but I'm having great fun and I'm in it for the long term.
I've been genuinely impressed by the level of support in terms of training and online resources and communication organised by head office and there was a great sense of team-spirit, excitement and cameradie (sp?) as well as lots of inspiration at the conference (so I can't wait for January's gala!).
Your own experience will depend largely on what you aim to achieve and how much time and effort you are willing and able to put into it and your upline will be hugely influential too. Ask if your division has their own web forum - a couple do and these are so supportive. There's a netmums forum too, which is great for giving tips and encouragement as well as sharing successes. If you are close to your upline you might be able to borrow samples / stock /racks etc from them for early events to give you chance to find out if it's right for you before investing more in your new business. (Some people do lots of parties and orders with nothing more than their starter kit though so you really can make money with this alone.)
It's a great time of year to sign up. Lots of my customers from the past 9 months have come back to me asking for pre-Christmas parties and if I'll go along to their Christmas fayres etc. If you have a couple of other active organisers in your area you might find that many groups already have Christmas events covered so try to have a day this week making some phonecalls and enquiries, as well as inviting everyone you can think of along to your own first party. But I've found that getting out and about to public events is the best way of gathering contacts, party enquiries and so on - make sure that you find the prize draw forms on the organisers' website.
I am sure that your upline will have lots of information, tips and help for you too. But enjoy it and love the books - they really seem to sell themselves anywhere I take them!
Best of luck - perhaps I'll see you at the gala?0 -
Hi Scotrae,
thanks for your reply! I actually live in Ireland and there doesn't really seem to be anyone else doing this in the area. It's great in one way as I should have the monopoly, but the downside is I don't have the same support system in place. There is nothing like the gala here as there isn't enough organisers yet! I'm really looking forward to getting my starter kit and getting on with the business of selling!!0 -
I am an Usborne Books rep and I thought I would mention how easy it is to make some extra cash for Christmas or just in general.
Its basically just selling children's books from ages 0-16. Its a bit like Virgin Vie or Ann Summers where you can do home parties or you can go to fayres or events and sell there.
You earn 24% commission on everything you sell and you can get free books for yourself too. You can sell these books on too! :T
Its really easy and fun. There is a charge for the starter kit which is usually £38 but for that you get £100 worth of books and stationery to start you off.

No as per the handbook your not allowed to sell through ebay though Usborne do offer templated websites that you can purchase and people can buy through your website.
Little Lisa - I have been doing Usborne for over 2 years and yes have done well. I have worked hard at it and find 2 years on people come to me asking me to attend their events rather than me finding events. I also get alot of repeat orders from regular customers.0 -
I looked into Ushbourne books and spoke to one of the reps local to me. She was doing a lot of work for not much reward and was relying on the same people to buy again and again. I guess it all depends on the people in your area. I've since started with another paty plan company and am now getting paid a full time wage for part time hours. There are a lot of other companies out there not just your Ann Summers, virgin vie etc and I think if you can get into one of the not so well known ones you can do quite well as people are keen to try something different.Apr wins - £70 :jMay Wins - £350 :T June wins - £579
July Wins - £1772  Aug Wins - Benecol Bag, Clynol Goodies, James Bond Ltd Edt poster, Another Nokia 5800, 2 x mars dvds, Pentel pen, Avon Lipstick X 2, Cadillac Records CD and DVD, Bourjois lipgloss & sungalsses, Pink Panther 2 dvd, audiobooks, Miraclegro liquafeed, Ice age 3 goodies0
