I used Equifax last night, thought the reports etc they generated were very good and useful.

I cancelled just now via the phone, took less than 2mins and no pain in cancelling at all :)

I used this freephone number 0800 1214752 and got straight through to a lovely woman. It took me less that 2 minutes to cancel

Sorry to resurrect an old thread but this freephone number still works. Got through on first ring and fence led straight away.

Thanks so much for this x

I was exactly the same, I spotted the freephone number at the start of the thread and was disappointed when it didn't work, but this one I got straight through. She was so helpful.

Yep, I've been using 0800 1214752 every time I've needed to call them (had some trouble proving my ID and address because I have no mobile contract, no bills and apparently my bank statement wasn't good enough for them). Just cancelled in 2 minutes, no problems. :)

Thanks for this, just used the freephone number and cancelled also.

It wasn't down as a DD on my bank statement but a POS (Point of sale)...very clever, hence me only spotting it late last night.

The lady did say I would have free use of an alert system for 12 months after that I could decide whether or not to keep it but there would be a charge. I declined the 'free' service as I'm not convinced that the POS charge will be resurrected without my knowledge after the year. The lady couldn't really answer this as she said I would receive an email to cancel. I said please make sure I receive no 'free' service either.

just cancelled mine with the free phone number. Took about 5 mins to get through but then all done in about 45 seconds.
  • Useless! I was on hold for 16 mins then my call ended because all my credit was used. I topped up my mobile and I've been on for another 23 mins so far. I would not recommend this company to anyone anywhere. All I want to do is see my credit report but at the very last stage it said to give them a call on 0844... Now I just want to cancel the account (if there is one). I don't want anything to do with them. I'm so frustrated by this useless company.
Yes I've seen the freephone number on this forum but I don't have a landline. So I'm paying through the nose at 25p/min.
  • For phoning 0800 numbers from a mobile try 0800buster.

I haven't used it for ages but (I think) if you dial 01163040800*** followed by the phone number.

Or google 0800buster to make sure I've given you the right instructions.

I'm sure it was on this site that I found out about it.

  • I found it!! Have to share it with you. Those in the United States, to cancel your Equifax free trial 1-866-640-2273 is the number. I even called it today, and it is a Saturday! They will try to talk you into keeping it, and if you can understand what the foreign person is saying, just keep telling them you want to cancel. They try to get you to call back until the day your free membership runs out... The number they list on their website that automatically comes up, "you can't cancel this way, you must call us at ____" ...that number is disconnected. Crazy.
