Thanks Dacouch and FH Brit.
Noticed that my direct line home insurance cover actually provides cover for lost/ stolen posessions away from home, just need to check the levels of cover for medical side as suggested.0 -
Hartyfd your DL policy may cover your baggage / personal items away from home but it also has their exclusion for damage / loss once you pass them over to the airline0

Have a question for the board, if thats possible.
Has anybody had any experience of Travel Insurance Facilities, UK Branch Office of Union Reiseversicherung AG. who are the underwriters of a policy I am looking to take out. My Wife has a couple of PEMC's which she has discussed and been screened by them for, and the price is very competitive. The cover seems very good, £5m basic cover, smallish excesses. TIF are regulated by the FSA.
So am I missing anything?
Thanks0 -
I've just checked our insurance for going to Florida this year (this thread was a prompt!) and I notice that we are not covered for personal accident. It is through moneysupermarket/holiday extras. This obviously wasn't an option within the tables for comparison otherwise I would have notived before now, so should I take an alternative policy?0

I am not familiar with these insurers but as a general remark (and don't tell anyone I said this) it may be genuine and there are some very good and respectablle insurers (I can't beleive myself saying that)!C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Well I just looked (and if I got the correct site) it states single trip from £10 per person!!!!! If that's your policy I am not surprised that you are not fully covered (and personal injury may not be the only thing not covered at that price).
What personal injury cover are you looking for (under what circumstances? - Hire car crash compensation? Theme Park Ride Collapse? Shark attack?) Give me a clue as to why you want it?
Remember Moneysupermarket is a money saving site, it is up to you (and I mention this again and again) to make sure you have adequate cover and then compare prices for comparitive coverage.
Remember you have the cancellation (cooling off) period that may allow you to cancel at no cost. You can always do that and re-order.C. (Ex-Pat Brit)

Well we don't do anything 'extreme' other than the rollercoasters:D
Am I right in saying that the comprehensive car hire insurances cover accidents? Other than that, I was just concerned that there was a zero next to personal injury and if one of us tripped over a kerb and broke an ankle for instance, we wouldn't be covered.
Otherwise, cover is for £5000000 medical expenses, £2000000 personal liability, £3000 cancellation and £1500 baggage.0 -

Thanks FH Brit, I've seen that their assistance arm is known as Emergency Assistance Facilities0 -
Interesting thread... unfortunately we found out 'after the event' about many of things discussed here... my young son took seriously ill when on holiday in Florida last July with a ruptured appendix.
Despite being 'covered' and submitting a full claim in a timely fashion, we are still receiving strongly worded letters from the USA with respect to bills remaining unpaid.. something we are trying to sort out with our insurer. One person at the insurer told us it was policy for them not to pay the bills right away, but to let them 'accumulate' so they could negotiate a discount with the medical providers in the USA. This has cause us a lot of stress as we are still receiving lots of bills, some for $30,000+
On a positive note our son had his final operation a few weeks ago and is at last on the road to a full recovery. I just hope we get the insurance company to pay all our bills soon.0 -
Which insurance company is that with kingla?0
