  • We had the scallops tonight - 2 packs between 3 of us seemed about the right quantity or we might still have been a bit peckish. They were lovely. Served them with the dauphinoise potatoes and the ceasar veg (pack of each), washed down with the wine. Nice treat not to have to do any chopping and preparation.

Hi, what kind of "Ready to Roast Chicken" is in the offer? Is it a whole chicken?

  • Am I reading that the general opinion is people aren't too fussed with the offer this time?
Maybe M and S not giving quite as much awaydue to their falling profits? Hopefully we will get another stab at it before Christmas and Mand S will be back totheir usual generous selves with whole chickens, lovley big puds and lots of delicious wine xxx
  • I do think the offer isn't as good this time. As usual only one vegetarian choice and there was only one of this particular product on the shelf when they opened yesterday.

We had mousakka, hot choc pud and roast parsnips which would have been £9 anyway. Grabbed a twin pack of orange juice which I guess is good for a quid. Only saved about £2. Nice as a weekend treat but not a bargain like last time hence only bought one deal this time.

my only gripe at these offers is, you only get one side (perhaps they expect you to buy another), so its either a choice of potato, bread or veg. i usually have at least 2 of these with a meal normally, so im having to choose whether i want to buy just pots, or just veg with my chicken, and cook extra at home

however, for me its still a great deal, as me and OH now have a 'romantic' meal (yeah right, with 3 kids hanging over your shoulder drooling) twice a month now, rather than the twice a year, we used to

I don't find M & S deals to be as good as the reductions you can find at the local Waitrose or Tesco, although at least M & S have now started their own reductions as well.

It would be more tempting if they stripped out the wine, which is supposed to be valued at around £5 and just offered a meal for 2 for £5, or a meal for 4 for £10.

The wine might not be to taste, plus it has to be carried home. It is always easy to find wine bargains so no big deal.

I agree with this, as I rarely drink wine, and it is not such as good deal with the orange juice

i got to M&S for about 11.30am this morning and was thinking, "oh no, cant buy wine till 12.30" Scottish licensing laws, then noticed an offer for the chocolate truffles priced at £7.99 instead of wine. So I got Mousaka, ceasar veg, the cheeses and chocs and saved just over £10, which I was delighted at.

Ps, the blue cheese makes a lovely brocolli and stilton soup (yummy)
I Can resist everything, except Temptation x:o
  • Hi, just wanted to say big thanks to whoever posted that the chocs are included - sorry, been back thru thread but could not find original poster on this. I got two deals - 2 lasagne, have eaten the first one between 3 of us, with caesar veg - if you had some bread too it would serve 4 easily. got one deal with wine, the other with the choc truffles - which will make a good Christmas present for someone. Not as good as the whole Oakham chickens, but still a bargain IMO. Many thanks again. SS BTW - i think when factoring in are the ready meals good value or not, you have to take into account the time you would normally spend cooking, plus no washing up pans afterwards - bonus!
