  • I use to use denture tablets to clean a steal thermos. One day I shook the flask and found I had forgotten to take the lid off. I think the lid hit 4 walls before coming to rest. Now got new flask as old lid didn't seal properly.

i use one in toilet at night, can get basics ones from boots for bout 40-50p, and one a night pack lastes me a month.
  • Much as I love Rachelle's thread on cleaning products, hope you are still out there reading this Rachelle :-*

I personally wouldn't be without my Mr Muscle kitchen cleaner and my Tesco bathroom cleaner. One quirt and you are done and no lugging out big containers of vinegar and mixing of potions :D

I have, however, always used vinegar in water for my mirrors and glass doors wiped dry with newspapers have found nothing to beat it. I also use it occasionally to sparkle up the stainless steel sink by just plugging up the plug hole with kitchen roll and leaving vinegar and water in the sink for a while.
  • I love Mr Muscle aswell, cos it does all the hard work..so I don't have to!! 8)

    Hi all

Can I be my ol' boring green self as usual and say that these chemicals are damaging to the environment and to our lungs/skins/children? :o

No matter how sparkling clean they make our kitchens and bathrooms look, there is a much higher price to be paid in toxicity and health problems! Inlcluding the pollution of the water at production and usage point too!

There is a middle way if people do not want to use vinegar but want to give up the heavy stuff, and that's the environmentally friendly products. I know they are more expensive but often there is less need to clean than the amount we clean anyway...

....ok, ok, off my green soapbox now...

Love and merry Xmas to all

You boreing Caterina? NOOOOOOO ;) You green Caterina? Don't know I can't see ya ;D Your posts always make me look at products in a new light so please keep them coming :D

A year ago I had a cleaning cupboard busting with cans, sprays, tubs etc to cover every cleaning job under the sun. I've saved a fortune over the last twelve months using them all up and not buying new ones. I can now keep the whole house clean with a minimum of chemicals, although some things I use I know damage the enviroment :-[

My cleaning cupboard now only has 8 products: -

Soap & Washing Soda - for Laundry
Fabric Conditioner - cos I'm a sucker for a nice smell
Vinegar - for cleaning glass, mirrors & chrome
Cheapo Bio Powder - for cleaning touch stains/grill pans etc. Infact all tough jobs except washing clothes ;D
Cheepo fairy liquid & Bleach - to clean almost any hard surface around the home.
Air freshner - for the same reason as fabric conditioner :-[

Does anyone else do it with less?

  • I can beat 8! ;D

I've just about finished using up the few last bits of what was a cupboard full of cleaning stuff - now I only buy 7 things:

    1 Tesco value soap powder
    2 Persil
    3 Bicarb
    4 Vinegar
    5 Lemon juice
    6 Teatree
    7 Tesco value bleach

This is what I use it all for:

    Laundry = Persil

    Fabric softener = vinegar

Cream cleaner = bicarb & water paste

Surface/oven/fridge/ cleaner = water, bicarb, teatree & lemon juice (could use vinegar but lemon smells nicer ;))

    Glass/Stainless steel cleaner = vinegar

Dishwasher powder = Tesco value soap powder

    Dishwasher rinse aid = vinegar

Loo/floor/drain cleaner = Tesco value bleach

    Can anyone beat 7?
