Thank you for the welcome Curry Queen, hope you are well at the moment.

You're welcome! ... I'm not doing too bad today thanks :)

I am in search of what to put down your sink to unblock it...any ideas??

I think it was bicarb and vinegar, anyone any ideas???

    thanks

You and me both! ... my kitchen sink is terribly slow at draining these days too. You're right about the bicarb and vinegar and I've tried this a couple of times myself, which seems to help initially, but I've a feeling I might need to remove the u-bend and see if there's something lodged in there to block it up so quick again

If you've got plastic pipes under your sink, the best bet will be to remove the U bend and clean it out that way. They're easy enough to unscrew and put back together again (usually:)

That's the thing ... theoretically it should be a simple, straightforward job ... but when does that ever happen in reality

I'll get a round tuit one day :D

I think the recipe for unblocking sinks was soda crystals then boiling water.

Either that or - bicarb - then vinegar so it fizzes - then slowly rinsed after a while with HOT water.

If you are under the sink then - KEEP YOUR MOUTH CLOSED! :):):)

Before you start crawling under sink etc - I have just remembered something.

If you go to your local ironmonger - there is a springy wire thingy - called some wierd name that is a pipeunblocker.

You push it gently through and down the plughole and because it is bendy - it will go down the awkward shape of the pipe. It cost about a fiver but can be used on any pipes and re-used.

Do the bicarb and vinegar thing. Sprinkle some bicarb on the plug hole pour down some vinegar it fizzes like mad but it clears it. I usually put it in a night then leave it overnight and put boiling water down in the morning.

Between my long hair, his woolly socks and cement/ plaster dust I could find nothing that unblocked the plug hole of the bath until I tried this combo, it's great, much better than soda crystals if your pipes are well and truely yuk!

I do what my Mother used to do when living in area with very hard water. Keep a big jar of white vinegar at the back of the bathroom cupboard & leave the shower head in it for a day once a week. Works a treat

The best thread to my knowledge. A good laugh at times too, especially the anecdote about the person who left the showerhead boiling for such a long time that it melted. Nice one.

I recently bought some fairy stuff, the one Ainsley Harriot advertises, and I tell you what a load of rubbish. I must have MUG written all over my face.

Never again though. Not after reading this thread.

I'm so impressed that I have put it as my Favourite Link in MY MSN so I can look it up in a flash.

    Big thanks to everybody

P.S. my mum told me to use vinegar to get rid of toilet odours not so long ago. Great stuff worked a treat.

I was so excited yesterday, we went to our local small town to do some holiday shopping. I got a pair of jeans and three tops. So what has this to do with cleaning? Well, I went into one of those little shops that sell just about everything cheap, you know the sort of thing, tins of veg and mis-shaped cakes etc. and I found a 5litre bottle of white vinegar for £1.29. I was so thrilled!!! Hubby was very amused, he always waits outside and couldn't believe it when I staggered out with this huge bottle.
I told him he is lucky to have such a thrifty wife. Now where's my cloth?
