Another specs question. If you have ocular hypertension and need annual checks to monitor it, are you entitled to free eye tests? If you are, how do you access them?0

Try https://www.nuglasses.co.uk they should be able to do it. I've had great service from them and can highly recommend them.0 -
Sorry if this repeats earlier stuff. If you're looking for cheap single vision lenses with all the coatings, then http://www.goggles4u.com/ charges
$25.99 or less than £15 with free shipping per pair, including rimless and titanium bendables. I used to used https://www.optical4less.com, but they disappeared for a while - a little more expensive, but better quality.'Imagine something inspiring that somebody once said to you and go out there and win!'0 -

My local TK Maxx has just got in loads of designer reading glasses for under £20 from £100+.
Last year there was a £10 off coupon for glasses at Boots in the Times around June/July.0 -
I saw some reading glasses in the 99p Store in Liverpool last week! Also, I think Costco do them at £10 for 3 pairs, if you need to a bit more upmarket!;)0

The glasses seem of a very high quality, but also very cheap. You can upload your pic to see how they would look, so much less embarrassing then doing it in a shop when you can do it in privacy on your own!
I paid under £40 for a nice pair of rimless specs, now used as my main pair.
Also, big quidco savings!
Glasses Direct - would highly recommend!

Absolutely agree with Robert on "Try Online" function at https://www.glassesdirect.co.uk.
We had fun this afternoon to try various frames for me. My OH and DD were so pleased and excited in helping me choose the right one. I just went a further step to order a "Try at home" -- 2.5 quids for this service they said, but will cost me less with Lloyds's Save The Change :j
I seem to go ahead with the one all other family members fancy, just wait to see the final try with real frame when they arrive, hopefully next week. :A

I contacted Goggles4u because they say they provide "High Index" lenses, but don't reveal what this means, and I need my lenses to be flattened by at least 25%, given that I have a high prescription. I asked how much they would thin the lenses.
They said, tell us your prescription. I told them. They said that they could make me glasses, and the lenses would be "of normal thickness".
What is that meant to mean?0 -
Goggles4u appear to offer a random lens option, ive chosen the standard over 3 pairs now and each pair was substantially thinner than 'standard'
All i can suggest is you either post your prescription here and we can try and give an idea to how they may turn out or you take the pot luck option and order !!
Another thing to bear in mind is that opticians here have to abide by a set guideline for thickness etc and buying from abroad means they dont comply to this so their idea of standard is thinner than ours from the start.

Edit to say that I have found an old email from goggles4u that say that their high index lenses are 1.56 spec. This isn't really much better than standard ie non high index specification (1.5). There is some more information about high index lenses here. In a nutshell high index plastic lenses come in 1.6, 1.67 and 1.74, the higher the number the thinner the lens.
In view of this info, I think that the high street lenses I bought previously were probably the 1.67 thickness, hence my seeing a considerable difference between them and the ones from goggles4u.0
