I'm thrilled with my £15 rimless specs from googles4u. Their website seems to be down though.

All sorts of things wrong for a while, but they've sorted it out now.

You could try putting the arms (not the glass, obviously!) in hot water and see if that makes them flexible enough to bend. Do it very gently though, and if it doesn't move, then your best bet is probably to go to an opticians and get them to adjust it. Should be free, but might have to pay a small fee.

I tried bending them but they would not move, so I'll probably get it done at the opticians now.
  • I have been looking at these threads, and my experience is that having high astigmatism, and 'Cylinder' readings of -5.25, I cannot find anyone that accomodates this. Has anyone else found an answer?

Have you tried contacting some of the companies direct?

Try spex4less on 08001691734 or try emailing justrimless.

Spex4less is the online part of a high street optician and therefore should be able to make specs with your cyl value.

I have emailed justrimless before as my cyl is just out of the range on their website and they were quite happy to make up my prescription without any increase in price.

I have used both companies (several times !) and I can vouch that they are both good businesses.

I think that https://www.goggles4u.com might let you enter your cyl value but I think that your pd would need to be spot on for that. However I think finding frames that i like is a bit more tricky at goggles.

    Hope this helps.

can anyone recommend a good website for the highest index lenses (either 1.9 glass or 1.74 plastic)?

Most sites dont go over 1.6 in plastic and dont do glass at all!

  • I have an eye test on Monday (am using the D&A free voucher!)

As I haven't bought glasses for a while I plan to go to a high street store to buy and get fitted one pair, and then use an online website to buy a second cheaper pair. Who is the best value on the high street?
  • There's lot of useful advise on this forum, so please forgive me if you already know this:

I recently needed a pair of glasses and I found this website very useful:
    http://www.squidoo.com/glasses

They explained how to order on line and then they had links to all the online retailers. I also liked the poll they had where people could vote for their favourite online glasses retailer.
The site offered a recomendation based on their experience for best service and that was 'specs for less'. I ended up getting my glasses from them and I recieved very good glasses, very quickly and am very pleased

I hope this information may help someone.
  • Hi,

I have been reading this thread with interest and have decided to buy a spare pair of glasses over the net. I like the look of the lenses (even the cheaper pairs!) on glassescrafter.co.uk however I have not seen any reviews for this site. Has anyone used this website to order glasses and what was the service like?

It's quite difficult to judge the various websites selling glasses but I've found a small website for those, like me, that are not sure who to use. It has some useful info on how good the service is (hope this hasn't been mentioned already):

    http://www.eyeglassretailerreviews.com/index.htm

Another website that has useful information on buying glasses (lens information is very useful) is:

    http://www.eyeglasses.com/prescription_glasses.page

Hope the websites are of use to someone.

PS Good luck to anyone who uses D&A as I ordered my glasses beginning of September and when I picked them up they were made up wrong and had to be sent back. Have to wait until next week before I can get the replacements. I hope they've fixed the problem!
