This is such a stupid argument.

Alyssa_mae do you stand outside Dixons warning folk that item X is cheaper at Argos? I doubt it!!

As for P&P if you don't like the cost then don't bid.

Most of the items I sell on EBay I have bought on EBay and sorted the listing out to make it clear, add photos, insert in correct category or whatever...I am I ripping people off?

If I'm in a shop and I see someone pick something up that I know is cheaper else where. I tell that person. I can't help myself. I hate to see people ripped off.
If this person dose live off the beaten track then fair enough she gets ripped off but at least she knows about it.

As for the last bit of your quote. u've lost me.

I do sell on ebay a lot...........

And when selling goods, I assume you inform your bidders if their bid (including P+P) goes above the price at which the same goods are available elsewhere? ;)

Like I said in an earlyier post all my items start at £1 reserve what is bid after that is up to the buyer. And I don't rip anyone off on postage costs either. I would not put something on there that I had payed £10 for at £15. Then I would be trying to rip someone off wouldn't I ?.

I think it's the buyers fault. If they wanted that item they should have researched or at least looked on online shops first before bidding.

I think you did the right thing. I might have done the same. You hid your email address so they won't know it's you so you may have helped someone with their christmas budget.

What I mean by the last bit is; I can sell something on Ebay that was bought on EBay for sometimes 100% mark up. I can even run them concurrently with 20 identical items and acheive a reasonable profit margin over the other identical items.

Selling is about perception and trust:- is the buyer happier to trade with me, do I offer a superior service; I hope I can see say yes to that.

So what a buyer bids on your auctions is up to them, but what a buyer bids on other folks auctions is not up to them?

So if your Dora starts at £1 and goes for £25 and the auction discussed in this thread is for Dora and starts at £19 and ends at £25, then who has ripped who off?

    Just playing devils advocate. :D

I think all sellers want to make a profit and all buyers want a bargain.

I agree that people do rip others off for postage, but I live in Cornwall and my nearest post office is 16 miles away. How do I work out my postage charges? Postage is: packing; travelling to post office; time and the actual stamps. Its very hard, but you need to read read read the auction and calculate how much your top price is (including any rip off postage).

... Ebay used to be about bagging a bargin now it's about ripping people off.

Are you sure your a money saver???

Ebay is an online Auction, nothing more or less. Not all Ebay sellers/buyers are moneysavers and not all moneysavers are Ebay-ers. ;)

If you feel ok with your actions .. surely that's all that matters

  • Some times I act first and think later. The scrabble's recommended retail price is £19.99. (bag a bargin in sainsburys at £13. I will put this on the grab it board). I should have checked first. I am very sorry to the seller. When I'm wrong. I admit it.

But my feelings still stand about people using ebay to rip other people off and the reactions of some money savers ( use this term loosly) have been very interesting indeed.

And what if your £10 item, (listed at a start of £1), was bid up to £15 ..... I assume you would refuse to accept anymore than £10 from the bidder?
