Sometimes I make a tomato sauce and blitz it smooth, then I add a sausage - sometimes 2 - cut or sqeezed out into marble sized 'meatballs'. I often also add a 100g of cooked beans. Both are good with pasta. Just to add I then cook the sausage by simmering it in the sauce. You can used cooked sausage.
At the moment I'm using cannellini beans that are very cheap. They make more than double their weight. I worked it out at 5p for 100gs cooked beans. They freeze well and I freeze them in mealsized 'lumps'.0 -
Got the recipe from http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=1348039&postcount=13 and if you want a few more instructions then try the whole thread which is http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=132667&highlight=bread+pudding. I like the bit of this and that method in the first link.
Haven't figured out how to do the links prop, so hope those work
I always start bread pud by soaking my bread in water - not milk (too much milk makes my eczema flare up) - and that's cheaperworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
Had an exploratory trip to my nearest Mr S last night at 8.00pm. Not a great success - some of the things I buy regularly are slightly cheaper (worth knowing) but not much was yellow stickered and none of it was things I'd eat. Boo!

Hi Weezl
I forgot to mention how beautiful your dinner photo was yesterday- just like out of a glossy top cookbook....now theres a thought Weezl...have you ever thought that this thread could form the basis of a really successful cookery/guide book?-I'd buy it like a shot!!!! Am trying to think of a suitable title....any ideas anyone?0 -
Hmmmm....... could be having a change of shops available to me in the not to distant future, so will be interesting to see what difference that makes to my food shopping habits/bills.
Hubby mentioned yesterday that there was a piece in the paper about Co-Op trying to buy Somerfields, which has been confirmed today.
Given we have one of each within walking distance (and both in the same direction, so within spitting distance of each other) it's going to be interesting to see what happens.
The bbc news website says Co-Op may be forced to sell on some of the store, with Morrisons, Iceland and Waitrose being mentioned as possible buyers for them. The Somerfield store is the larger of the two local ones, and is a lot bigger than the Icelend stores I've seen -- but I could see it being a possible for a Morrisons as they did have some smaller stores where we used to live. But if Co-Op relocate to the larger one, then I can't see Morrisons being interested in the smaller site -- but it looks ideal for Iceland.
I don't recall having ever been to a Waitrose, but either of the others would suit me. I think Iceland would be my preference though, as I can get to Tesco pretty easily (and even on foot if I don't need loads and the weather isn't tooooo bad, as it's about a 3 mile round trip)Cheryl0 -
Hi Weezl

(And I'm another that uses the cheapo bangers, though mine are from Mr T as I don't have a Mr A in walking distance or on a direct bus route.)Cheryl0 -
Thanks esselt and CW18 for the photo compliments. It's quite a deliberate strategy actually, to really try to make the foods look delicious.
It's my smallway of trying to turn on it's head this thing I've been ranting about before, where TV programmes use very vivid, bright, saturated colour photography for (expensive) food. And so we all crave it.
Well if I can make a portion of 21p gnocchi and pesto look good, then I feel like we might be able to start a reverse movement!
Who needs salmon if you can make a smart price sausage look appealing!!!:rotfl:
