Evening all, bit of an expensive day for me costed out, found a chicken curry in the freezer that I'd bought reduced in Tesco (£1.42 instead of £2.85), thankfully bought before July so not included in the total in my sig!

    Today has been..
    Breakfast - branflakes, raisins, milk - 12p
Lunch - chicken curry ready meal - £1.42
Snack - chocolate cake - brought into work by colleague - freeee :D
Tea - pasta with courgettes, garlic, lemon juice and spinach pesto - about 35p
followed by plain yoghurt (13p) and passionfruit (reduced to 15p) - 28p
Total for day - £2.17 - ouch
Debt@16.12.09 £10,362.38, now debt free as of 29.02.2012.

well it needed using up, and it doesn't compromise your new challenge, so I say well done you on a free lunch! :T:T:T

    dinner sounds great....

ceridwen, I see where you're going with the rinse off the sauce idea with the baked beans.... But it seems a bit daft to then make them back into ..... baked beans!;) But if it's the cheapest way, I must allow myself to be persuaded!

As thursday approaches I'm feeling trepidous about the pigs head! What if it's really gross!?

I may yet covert totally to vegetarianism!:D

Our lodger is cooking fish. I don't think it's that fresh! The house is horrribly pongy! Me and Mr Weezl are going to hang out in our room with the telly and a scented candle! :o

Orange (or lemon!) & almond drizzle cake
(Slimming world recipe from “Simply Summer” cook book)

    Serves 12

3 ½ syns on each day

    Fry light
    4 large eggs
    4tsp sweetener
    100g/3.5 oz SR flour
    1 level tsp baking powder
    2 level tbsp ground almonds
1 tsp finely grated zest of orange or lemon

    For drizzle

Juice if 2 sweet oranges (or 1 lemon!)
1 level tsp arrowroot (or gravy thickner!)
4-5 tsp sweetener (or tsp honey!)
    1 tbsp grated zest

    Plain yog to serve

To make the cake whiz eggs, sugar & sweetener until soft & creamy then slowly fold in the flour & almonds. Spray pan with fry light & put in a cake pan (I used square) and bake at 190/GM5 for 25/30 mins. Turn out & cut into squares or wedges.

For the drizzle heat 2 fluid oz water with the lemon zest, juice and sweetner and then use thickener until its thick but drizzleable! I served mine with plain yog all over the cake & yog & it was, surprisingly, yummy!

Slaking flour means mixing a bit of cold water to it before adding to hot liquid

Might be a regional word ?? we use it up here in't north also my nanna "crees" her rice for rice pudding this means cooks it a bit with water first to save on milk

Anyone else got ny regional culinary terms ???

Not yet - still trying to get a copy from Read It Swap It :o I love Tim Harford - he presents a great 100% Geek radio prog about numbers. It's off air atm, but I listen to the podcasts as I cycle to work ;) Speaking of which, all this exercise is making me super-fit, but I'm ravenous all the time  I swallowed a huge fly on the way home today - no idea of the nutrition :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
