wyebird, I'm so glad you liked it! Busy day today again so not much chance to respond to everyone and everything I'd like!
Got 4 packs of bargain 50p chicken from Morrissons (cos ISOM gave me her 'share' they'll only let you have 2 each!).
Back later today with more thoughts/stats.:D
Miss you all!

Hi Gang...thought I'd better let you know I'm still having a nose:D
I do so hope the offspring will at least try the gnocchi--not an adventurous bunch my lot:o And to that end, I'd like to defend my decision to ask for a breadmaker as a prezzie...it is truly the best invention ever:T With four adults living in very close proximity there is limited space--& even less time--available at the best of times, so having a machine that I can load up & leave it to its own devices is a god-send! Our home is typical in that, if I'm in the kitchen trying to do summat, half the blubbin neighbourhood wants to be there with me, using the sink, wanting the kettle, making toast or choosing then to have 'that chat':p
I usually like the times when they want to help do stuff, but why do they always choose a time when you have to crack onAnd since when did home baking become a spectator sport for associated mates to drool over cuz their "mum never makes stuff like that"
Spose I should be flattered that I'm such a celebrity in my own saucepan:rotfl:
How did the seaweed harvesting go Weezl? I remember visiting my nan & calling into Barnstaple to go to the WI market---Butcher's Row used to have crates of lava[sp]bread & I didn't believe dad when he said it was seaweed....Wonder if all those lovely shops are still there? I'm torn twix wanting to 'go back' & see the haunts of many family holidays, but risk the chance of my memories being tainted by "developement":oFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Your house sounds lovely big mumma! Spent the am with weezl- she hunting bargains (which I'll let her eloborate on!) and me getting the most deeelicious piece of smoke salmon at the market. Just ate it weezl & it really was most delicious, although I now stink of fish!
Can understand what you mean about tainting memories BMF..always a toughie but when I have gone back to some places I've lived its also a good opportunity to look back and see how much has changed for me so in some ways lovely but you then see through different eyes too IYKWIM! Let us know if you do...would be interested in your experience. I went back to my old school which I thought was HUGE as a child but it was tiny as an adult! Need to catch up with this thread - have spent too much time these last couple of days wallowing in my skintness rather than doing anything productive to help out....
.....OHs friends with OCD who can't bear to have food in the house approaching its sell by date gave him two packs of sausage rolls yesterday - will be ideal for pack ups over the next couple of days.....and another friend gave me a carrier bag of onions, peppers and aubergines last night.....she had previously given me a butternut squash which I shamefully did nothing with and the skin was mouldy.....was about to throw it out and I decided to investigate the "body" of the squash.....lo and behold it was still firm so just ditched the skin and have diced the squash along with the other veggies and some garlic and herbs, olive oil etc and it is in the oven right now starting to smell fab.......will make up some couscous or pasta to have with that tomorrowThere are still plenty of veggies left, so will probably roast the rest with some baby new potatoes and have with a reduced cooked chicken that is in the freezer, for later in the week.
Whilst investigating the contents of the back of the cupboards, though, I found some puy lentils....pulled them to the front and spilt a good handful over the kitchen floor - I think I have swept them all but they look a bit like mouse droppings, so anyone who comes round before I do a "proper" clean may well think we have "visitors" :eek:Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. tea tonight we're on sausages, stuffed pasta and pasta sauce -- and I've finally managed a "Weezl budget meal"
the sausages cost me 32p (was in Tesco a few weeks back, and the value bangers were priced at 16p/pack, so I bought several and froze them)
the pasta sauce cost me -£1.12 !! (went through the till at 3p a tub, but then knocked £1.18 off my shopping as they were on multi-buy offer at the Co-Op)
the pasta is half a £1.67 bag from MrT (should serve 4, but only use half qty alongside sausages), so 83.5p for that
so tea for 4 is coming in at 3.5pCheryl0 -

We're having a "free" meal tonight :j One of our coquerels (he's been in the freezer for a while, until DD was away
) pot roasted and served with HG veg - potatoes, beans, peas, carrots, shallots, garlic. We'll serve it with a bottle of apple wine (using several varieties of apple from our garden). We're then having some HG rhubarb compote. DH is doing the cooking, so I'm catching up on here.
We've been invited out tomorrow night - our best friends have been let down by a couple at the last minute and asked us to come along and be sparkling company in return for a free meal :T We'll be taking a bottle, so it won't be completely free, though
Enjoy your evenings, Penny. x:rudolf: Sheep, pigs, hens and bees on our Teesdale smallholding :rudolf:0 -
