    Hi everyone

    new recipe for

    Onion soup

    600g onions(peeled weight)sliced thinly
    tablespoon oil
    1 teaspoon sugar
    175g small diced potato (peeled)
1200ml veg stock 1 teaspoon dried thyme/1 tablespoon fresh

Fry the onions over a gentle heat in the oil with the sugar ,it takes about 1/2 hour until they are golden then add the thyme and potato and cook for another 5 minutes then add the stock and simmer until the potato is cooked

Its a recipe adapted from w/watchers (with spray oil) so might be S/W friendly too

its lovely an sweet and savoury

weezl any chance of a cost and nutrtional breakdown???

Hi all. Well I don't know what I'm going to do with it next... I was looking through the fridge and saw some jersey royals potatoes (I bought really cheap from sainsbury's the other day-45p for 2.5kg) and a couple of courgettes (really cheap from asda) and a red pepper. (also cheap from asda). they all look to be on their last legs so I have chopped them up and put them in the slow cooker-spur of the moment thing-cook them so they don't waste). So They are all in sc with a cup or so of water. Please can someone give me any idea what I can do with them next, because at the moment it sounds really boring and bland. Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thank you .
The sc is full until they cook down a bit.

Some spices/herbs and beans might help and maybe some passata or chopped tomatoes too

Thanks for that Lesley- I think they have a lakeland in the metropolis here (truro) so will have to check it out and perhaps phone ahead to make sure they have some in stock.

Shaz soup sounds yummy-hadnt thought about adding potato and sugar, will definately try it.

    Thanks

    Hi

I'd really love a remoska but I live in deep dark cornwall and can't find a stockist-anyone know where I can get one apart from lakeland...can't order on the net as I don't have any credit or debit cards(all chopped up...cash only!). I'm either going to invest in one of these or a slow cooker...any hints on which might be better/more economical???

Great thread, have been lurking for ages...perhaps I'm a bit sick but I just love the challenge of trying to live on next to nothing. Have had a bit of luck this week... (ex)OH picked up a garage full of winemaking stuff from freecycle..got there..old lady said "it was my husbands hobby but hes died and I want the garage cleared...havnt had time to rinse out the demijons (still full of gallons of lovely wine)could you take them anyway?"- result. Help me get over the disappointment of my tobacco plants going mouldy and dying (yeah I know...dreadful expensive habit!).

Oh well, back to a nice bowl of HM french onion soup (10p a gallon!!!)
Hi. Thanks for the info. Not sure if this helps you or not. There is a remoska advertised on ebay. Item number 310065563252 unfortunately there is no picture and it's £70 or best offer-this includes the remoska, stand and cook book.
    Hope this helps.

This thread has really set me off!

This morning I made a slow cooker full of lentil soup, weezl's lentil pate, home made houmous and have a loaf baking in my new panny!

Went to Tesco to return faulty kettle and get exchanged and found 4 large chinese chicken thighs for £1.49 (half price) so they are in the oven now for tea.

I looked at the huge bag of red lentils but they worked out dearer than the 54 pence for 500grams that they charge at Lidl so did not buy them.

Might have a look at the chinese supermarket in Leeds next time I go there to see if it is cheaper.

DD is pleased because a bag of value peppers at Tesco were all red and yellow ones which are her favourites!

DH just wonders what has come over me!

so :T yay! finally under my £1 limit at 25p :D , but boo, as I was having a hormonally hungry hungry day and ended up raiding the freezer for some ice cream (which is now gone and not being replaced) Next time I'll add some frozen veg to my plate for a more healthy filler-up, and it could be made cheaper with cheaper beans... I'm all fussy, but with the cheese you really can't taste the difference, and again, because the potato is a reheat, it counts as a veg portion.[/quote]

Thats just reminded me - I was wondering what to have to fill a gap in my stomach after my main course (virtuous glow - salad included nasturtiums: both leaves and flowers!). Right - freezer here I come - just remembered I have some stewed fruit incorporated with plain yogurt frozen in there - not tried that before - but should be nice.....

lesley gayle - thanks for the advice re courgette flowers - I wasn't sure if I could eat them raw, so that's good to know. all the recipes I've found are for deep fried. are the male/female flowers easy to tell apart?

    Hi,

the male flowers have just a long stem leading to them where as the female flowers are on the end of the growing courgette - if you see what I mean.
