Have just made the gnocchi, bit fiddly, but a good value meal I think, 4 large portions for 17.6p, so just the sauce to allow for...

    A pesto-y sauce will make the meal 19p a person, a tomato-ey one will be 14p a person

bit scary this  ... i made gnocchi this afternoon too! not sure on the costings, but used up my old potatoes (starting to grow!)!!! and the kids have had it with a tomatoey sauce containing all the left over veggies in the fridge (cabbage/lettuce/carrot/onion/tomato/garlic plus the remaining portion of a bacon and mushroom chilli 'thing' i did the other night for me and OH!!) again, not sure on the costings, but not much! made enough sauce for at least 3 meals!:D
also have 2 portions of gnocchi to freeze!

I was thinking of buying a head of a pig. Having watched Giles coren and sue perkins eat one on supersizers go... Mr Weezl is up for it too!/quote]

Okay, maybe I was a bit hasty, carried away by Sue's wit. On reflection, Acetate monkey is NOT up for it!! _pale_ As I recall, the chef said the place stank, and both of them nearly yacked. I have grand plans, but although I seem adventurous I am a fussarse!:o

Sorry to worry you, but I didn't get the craddock invite text! Maybe it's Orange dropping stuff again, or maybe you didn't send it to me:eek: Who's next in the contacts on your mob? Who else have you invited to hang around your mrs craddock? :rotfl:

I know i'm supposed to be working, but it's just more interesting. back to it I suppose....:o

Ahhhh...go on....you know you'll like it really:D (think positive man, think positive)...;)

Anyone know how much a side of beef weighs??????????????:confused:

Have been rather silly and ordered one it will be here in a month (it was walking around a field an hour ago):D

The lady described it in joint terms rather than weight it sounded like a lot of meat for £80

They have half pigs for the same price including all the offal trotters and head - I passed :embarasse but ordered a £30 pork pack instead need to find a sausage machine cheap quick!!!

They also had a farm shop(tumbledown shed selling veg it was fab all laid out like an old fashioned grocers got
red gooseberries, a huge cauli ,a bunch of carrots ,spring onions and beetroot plus 1/2 dozen eggs for less than £3:T :T

ISOM/BOB?, if I make a batch of gnocchi with wholemeal flour and potato and a tomatoey sauce without oil, would that be a SW friendly dinner for ISOM?

    Love Weezl x

erm, think it's just morrissons Shaz, have you got one near you?;)

I found a gnocchi recipe here, and doctored it!

    My gnocchi version-
half a packet asda smart price instant mashed potato (you can't taste the difference in this honest!) 8p

    400g plain flour 9.6 p

make up mash according to packet instructions, I made mine a little wetter than normal, and added ground black pepper.

add flour and mix then knead until a fairly stiff dough. Somewhere between bread and pastry...Leave to rest for 30 mins then roll out into long sausages, about 1.5 cm fat, then cut into 2cm chunks.

Cook gnocchi in boiling water til they rise to the surface of boiling water, approx 2 mins.

    Makes 4 generous :D portions.

...and, if you feel so inclined/can summons up the energy....yer old mate ceridwen here wouldnt half mind a suitable version for her goodself (okay...her badself then!)....as in "first take yer organic potatoes...";) :D

EDIT:just taken a peek at original recipe - ah! I see - all becometh clear...that'll teach me to have wine with me dinner! LOL

Agh pigs head...youre a brave man AM...please dont feed me pigs head Weezl...I am liable to burst into tears but do appreciate the fact that the pigy, having been sacrificed, shuldnt go to waste but would be tearful if he looked at me...you know me and animals! Mid you if we got it from my butcher at least we know it would be a happy piggy and fear not Mr Weezl he is a lovely man (which was why Mrs W thought he was flirtingwith me!) and I am sure no need for Mrs Weezl to flirt at all...plus even if she were to bat a wee eyelash at him you know shes yours...never one to do thing by halves or lightly is she and wouldnt have said I do until 99.99% recurring that she was as sure as she could be that you were her man would she eh! Do you want me to look in Hugh & my cookery year (a FAB book - food season by season!) for recipes of the oink variety? Lovely to see our Bob(who is poorly today so all encouragement for her much appreciated I'm sure..) joining in...

Am sure someone will beat me to this :D but can think of five meals with little expense...

moroccan lamb chops with chickpeas and cous cous
chicken curry with rice (use 3 breasts)
chicken "Burgers" (breasts in a bun) and onion rings
sausage casserole (using 8ish of the sausages)
    sausage pasta ("recipe" below)

Thanks to mdhughes, I had the chicken burgers (flavoured with jerk sauce) and onion rings, added some cheese slices and had potato wedges that my mum kindly donated (fresh ones with herb stuff on from Mr T's), bloomin lovely it was too! I only had to buy the buns which were reduced to 29p, other spend was 85p for milk so that leaves me with £8.86 till Monday. Thanks to everyone for your ideas, this might actually be managable :D

penny penguin :rotfl: adopts breathy voice:

    this is not just pigeon,..........

this is Penny penguin's pan-fried, home-caught pigeon breast, with fresh, crisp salad leaves, and crisp, nutty homemade bread......

yep, not having to work such long hours in a city far away from home would be a dream come true!;) Lovin' the sound of your plan, I think I thought you already had a small holding?!

If only; just a big garden atm :o this is what I picked for tea:

    002-5.jpg

3 types of lettuce, 2 types of mange tout, tricolour radish, spicy mixed salad leaves, and the first carrots of the season (and not a carrot fly in sight :T :j )

I've never fancied gnocchi, but those look lovely. Can you make it with fresh potato?
