Just tried my first bath milk and it wa yummy! Rosemary & lavender smelled delicious & came out quite bubbly!
Well Weezl got the ake cos she was brave & asked for the head & he was actually quite chuffed I thought that someone (not me!) wasnt squeemish enough to not use it! I just couldnt! yuck! Not veggie but definately on C's side with ths one! Ooo pepys have been busy! Having a cant be bothered tea which will probably consist of a ham sandwich! Happy piggy but expensive, although yummy & am pleased to report that the head will also be a happy piggy so if nowt hope to influence weezl to go to the organic meat side! Have to say that I dont mind re veg (sorry C hope you will forgive me!) but knowing that I occasionally use weed killer at the plot it would seem hypocrytical to have organic veg - not forgetting expensive! Spent another £15 in asda but the majority cleaning stuff, flour and cat food...All just happily settled and puss cats less hissy that his morning but baby cat has his new collar on & hes so tiny that its too big, even on the biggest setting!
Forgt to say...site for bath stuff etc here for those who may be interested

As for the lentils and bodily functions efinately makes a difference all that fibre but you are meant to poo once or twice a day so healthy - possibly that we're just not used to it so feel we were healthy before but are more so now? Also means that food is going through as it should rather than staying in the gut fermenting & sometimes gvin us tummy ache...
How is Mr Weezl/acetate money feeling... that'll teach you for raiding the buffet when youve been eatng healthy! Come on fess up...what did you eat!! Seems so unfair that you have such hollow legs lol!

Weezl, my Dad used to pickle samphire when he was able to get hold of it. Unfortunately he's no longer with us so can't ask for the recipe! It was really crisp & tasty... Yum!

that's a lovely thought frugalista, and sounds yummy! Are you thinking of picking some to remind you of his ace pickles?

    update on the pig's head....

poor acetate monkey is at the 'over my dead body' stage about the thought of it. Even when I assured him that the butcher has kindly offered to remove the eyes!

He's up for HMKNs trotter recipe though, I think!

I have to admit I'm with AM on the pig's head -- even though logic tells me I shouldn't be!!

a ) if it's free, then it makes for cheap meals

b ) if we happily consumed all the edible bits of all the slaughtered animals, then it should (in theory) reduce the cost of the other cuts -- more of the animal being sold to cover the costs of rearing/slaughtering it, and reduced disposal costs

c ) it should reduce the number of animals needed to feed us, hence more land to allow for them to be given better living conditions (I'm definitely a 'free-range & organic wannabe', just the bank balance that won't allow it on a regular basis)

d ) it seems criminal to be throwing away food while people in other parts of the world are dying of starvation -- and I've tuned my brain more to that way of thinking over the past couple of years, such that we probably throw away less food in a two month period now than we used to in a week..... with it reducing further on a month by month basis as I get better at shopping in quantities that will be used, and cooking what we have in the house rather than going looking for something I "fancy" while we already have a full fridge and full freezers and cupboards !!!

Blimey everyones been so busy today! I have to say re: pigs head, I don't think I could go there now, but when we were little my gran used to give us brawn sandwiches and pork scratchings for sunday tea-both made from pigs head and we loved it as a treat- don't know why but as soon as I discovered what they were made of I could never touch them again. Mind you when you think about whats in your average value sausage or luncheon meat I don't know why we are so squeamish. Used to love pigs trotter too- just boiled with loads of salt and pepper- haven't seen it in years although it does appear on lots of posh london restaurant menus.

Had a good day today, had leftover french onion soup with HM bread (yesterdays) for lunch, made tuna fishcakes (1 tin of value tuna 34p, value instant mash 15p, HM breadcrumbs from stale bread), with sour cream(34p) and a herb salad (from the garden), with walnut bread (reduced 35p) for tea.

This lot served four of us, so thats £1.18- or 29.5p each- huraarhh

Just been looking through some of the indexed recipes, and think I may try a version of ISOM's pasta dish for tea tomorrow.

I have some creamed spinach in the freezer (bought in frozen blocks, 8 for £1 but I need to translate the instructions on them :o ) and some mixed dried mushrooms in the cupboard.... If I hydrate the mushrooms first (or gently saute some fresh ones if I can get some clearance ones tomorrow) before adding them I think it might just work

Will be interesting to see how it goes down with the rest of the family though, as I'm the only one who actually eats spinach (and I can only eat it in a creamed sauce, which I was introduced to in Germany when I went over on an exchange visit over Easter 1982!) ;)

French onion, my favourite, how do you do it so cheap?

    Hi HWGA

Well its a long story, but basically I get 250g of butter and a box of organic veg free each week from the local farm shop in return for giving their 2 boys guitar lessons, any herbs are from the garden, and I buy the smartprice veg stock cubes (16p for 8)- so it costs next to nothing really, just the stock cube and a splash of milk- if box has carrots, potatoes or any other root veg in I usually chuck a bit in too, then just wizz it all up with a handblender when everything has simmered soft. If I have any soup left over I often chuck it in with a casserole or pie to add a bit of depth of flavour, so nothings wasted. If I've cooked a joint of meat I always boil the bones up with some onion, celery and a carrot for stock and put it in icecube trays in the freezer-then I've got lovely stock on tap and can do away with cubes (beef rib joints make beautiful stock- I can't usually afford such an expensive joint, but my sister works in a pub which does sunday roasts and she always brings me the bones after her shift-dog gets one, stockpot gets the rest, sis gets a tub of fresh stock as a thankyou-everyones happy!!!)

    fanx eselt

That's what I call "using ur brains" I just have to figure out what skill I have that can be swopped in such a clever way, Well done:money: xx:A

so the snails are a no no but your thinking of pigs heads??(shudder)

i had some samphire yesterday i bolied it in water drained it then i added mushrooms, bacon and tomatos and fried them all in butter its yummy.

re pigs trotters we bought then for 10p a while ago from our butchers and there was very little meat on them if any i think we threw them away i have a feeling the butcher chopped them off too small so i didnt contain the shin so make sure yours are nice and big!

Justa quick question are you having any booze or is that coming out of your entertainment budjet as i think thats where id fall down!

I agree completely! Its a bit like haggis - of all the people I've ever met who won't eat haggis, it's because they don't like the idea of what's in it, rather than having actually tried it, and not liked it! Its deeelicious, by the way! ;)

Penny penguin yours sounds fab, will DD not eat an animal she's known?

Yep, that's the issue - she knows it's daft (she'll eat all meat and offal) but wouldn't even eat some surplus coquerels from a friend's, in solidarity with her mate :o

A couple of people have asked what the new challenge includes, ie is it cleaning stuff too.

Nope! The last one did, at 64p each a day, but this one is 50p without. But in my head it's 55p each a day inclusive of those things. I thought that was the least complex way of doing things!

What about wine  Unless it's HM that can't come into your budget, or can it :D
