Morning all! I did wonder about asking thebutcher if he has any old bones etc that he's like to chuck...Weezl just up so market doubtful!! Had a lovely lie in & woke with Alfie next to me fast asleep!! Soooo cute (but not edible!). Todays task is hoover (after finding hoover bag!) get to allotment and get some munchies & do litter trays and find some recipes for SW which I'll post later! Determined to do a burger for some reason! I did my usual and got loads and then was overwhelmed by the choices!
PS Can I report PP's sggy as an offensive? I do believe that there may be some Hugh cue jumping going on here. If he ever gets DIVORCED he is mine I believe..I loved him since the one where he stripped off & went fishing for sommat...little wobbly bottom running to the sea....ahh happy days!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! Thanks, but its not really my brains, its the brains of our village library- they have a SWAPSHOP board where people can 'offer' a skill or some surplus produce in return for a 'want' (which can be a definate or a 'make me an offer' want). Its great and no money changes hands at all. Recent SWAPs I have made include:
5 lovely school summer dresses for 1 day picking cuttings and helping yourself in my herb garden
Free day at pick your own fruit farm in return for OH doing a pre MOT service on farmers car
Landscape gardener decked my BBQ area in return for me making his daughters wedding cake
Five jars of honey in return for 2 jars of my tomato chutney and a jar of my HM pickled eggs
Works really well, although as with all small scale local ideas which are good, I expect some bureaucrat from the local council or health and safety will object to the idea eventually!!!!! I think everyone has loads of skills and we've forgotten how to function unless it costs us money- most people can paint a house, do a bit of gardening, make some jam or chutney, and most people have a specialised skill to offer eg. mechanic, teaching, bookeeping etc- my little sisters got it sussed, shes a freelance accountant who does loads of farmers and local self employed peoples accounts and nearly always gets paid in produce or services- she has had all her garden and building work done this way and her freezer is bursting with goodies!!!0 -

We don't have a lets sceme but have been offered support to start one by a local voluntary agency
As part of my uni course i start soon i have to do some vollie work and m tempted to start one then and kill 2 birds with one stone
i have been tempted to offer the little farm shop a cake/chutney swap for produce(eggs etc) but not had the nerve yet
probably a daft question how do you do your pickled eggs i love 'em?

Just found this on the GC thread have made a batch it is lovely.
My costings in blue
Simple alioli
4 TBSP MAYO (¼ 500ml jar 11p)
1 TABLESPOON CRUSHED GARLIC (2 large cloves 10p)
1 DASH PARSLEY OR MIXED HERBS (1p)
1 DASH BLACK PEPPER (1p)
SQUEEZE OF LEMON JUICE (1p)
Mix together,chill serve with any veggies,crostinis,HM bread sticks,french toast,toasted bread roll with crushed tomatoes -yumyum
So 24p for a batch then whatever the crudities cost.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
So we’re empty nesters.
Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).

Well this is my lunch and the kids for some the week makes 5 lunch servings
Take a 400g can of tuna in oil(Mr T's £1.09) and empty into a bowl (you need the oil too) add a can of drained Smartprice sweetcorn(21p) and 500g cooked pasta twists(Mr M's 19p) rinsed in cold water to remove starch stir well
I sometimes add a couple of small diced pickled gherkins too or a finely diced red onion

I agree completely! Its a bit like haggis - of all the people I've ever met who won't eat haggis, it's because they don't like the idea of what's in it, rather than having actually tried it, and not liked it! Its deeelicious, by the way!

I'm trying to start something like this where I live. My village is fairly small (couple of hundred residents, church, pub, PO and small shop on tiny campsite) and my children go to school in the next village (school, church, chapel, 4 pubs, library, over priced 'food emporium' :rolleyes: , small Co-op, deli, nice organic shop, restaurants, take away, posh clothes/antique shops). We didn't have our previously mentioned allotment (BTW DH completely agrees with the "off the wall" comment :rotfl: ) last year, so I started a scheme amongst the mums I knew who did have one, so I could get fresh fruit/veg in return for eggs/cakes/jam etc. You can either do a swap, or swap something for tokens that I made up. A bit like a babysitting circle really. It's working on a small scale, but I think I need to push it a bit more. We don't have a central point, it's done by email at the moment.
It just seems so sensible to me. Why force yourself to eat yet more beans when you could swap them for the courgettes someone else is sick of?
eselt, do you mind if I forward them your post about your village swapshop? It's exactly what I want to happen! I didn't join lets or anything like that, because it all seemed a bit like hard work with treasurers and committees. My way, it's just up to the individuals and I just give them a nudge in the right direction!

When I put it into DS2 lunch tub I add approx 25g grated strong cheddar over the top. He has this with cucmber sticks as his packup.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
