For anyone that needs this it is now down to 28p/tin in Asda and 34p & 38p in Mr T & S respectfully.

Did the rounds today of all 3 and still spent less than £35 also managed to use a couple of MOC in Mr A but Mr T would not accept them as they were "internet coupons". Mr S accepted the ones I had bought the items for (Candia milk and bread loaf).
    My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
Eldest son has his own house with partner & her 2 children (11 & 10)
Youngest son & fiancé now have own house.
    So we’re empty nesters.
    Daughter married with 3 boys (12, 9 & 5).
My mother always served up leftovers we never knew what the original meal was. - Tracey Ulman

Hi Weezl74 - Could you just slow down a mo, please? I'm only on page 22 of your last challenge and now I find 18 pages of a new one. It'll take me ages to catch up! It's a great thread to read when I can't sleep though and I'm very impressed with everyone's recipes.

I made your lentil pate this morning and DH and I both thought it was delicious. I've also made some cereal bars (recipe from Good Food magazine) and DH made some bread. We're definitely going to try some more of your recipes over the coming days.
Congratulations on your first challenge being chosen as totm:T

    Just made the liver pate.....

I knew my younger son wouldn't entertain the thought of eating it, but I ended up with both my elder son and husband coming into the kitchen to see what I was up to, declaring that it looked (and smelt) awful, and insisting they had no intention whatsoever of even trying it !!!!!!

Next time I think I'll reduce the butter or increase the liver content (I know Weezl said she uses loads of butter so it spreads thinly) 'cos I'm not a "butter" person and the taste of that is currently coming through a bit much for me -- but don't think I'll have a major problem working my way through this batch.

I normally use soya spread on bread, but if I don't have/can't afford that (or if I'm cooking other than baking) then I tend to use a cheap margarine (which is what the rest of the family use on a daily basis), but wasn't at all sure what the end result would be like using either of these ?!?!? For baking I normally use the own label equivalent of block Stork.

got my passport stamped on the bridge this weekend for the first time in ages (naughty bunny!)

When I moved here 14 odd years ago I told a friend she needed her passpost when she came to see me. She arrived, with passport & commented that she hadnt needed it stamped or shown & the guard laughed when she asked if he needed to see it with her ticket...still makes me chuckle all these years later. Worryingly, she is still waiting to get me back!!
top granny interesting typo - are you sure you didnt mean post of the month (Potm) rather than time of the month (totm!!) :rotfl: :rotfl: Made me chucckle anyhoo!!
re the nectarines you could whizz em with yog & freeze for ice cream? Just stir occ although weezl is good at ice cream - I cheat with me machine!!

Rang our council soil is £30 a ton so £3 cheaper but you have to dig it and fetch it yourself!! the other inc deliveryand comes in nice builders bags which make good compost bins!

    Shaz

Oh well - I guess every little helps. Must be the only time yet that I have found its cheaper to live in my area - in every other respect its "charge through the nose for everything" here...but I'm 99% certain our Council gives the compost away for free....hey you gotta save money somewheres in this area....just cant get to it myself though, as I dont have a car to fetch it (hence I buy it - and lug home what I can when I can).

Tea - butterbean & tomato stew (1/3 tin butterbeans = 14p, 1/3 tin tomatoes = 7p, onions = free, chillis = free, garlic, spices = a few pence), with rice (ummm, dunno, bought a massive tub a couple of months ago) and feta cheese (free with voucher) - about 30p

Replying to myself here - but this was lovely! Found some Jamaican chicken seasoning in the cupboard (was 89p for 100g in Tesco) and added that, gave it a lovely 'chickeny' taste - it's paprika, onion, chilli, parsley, salt, pepper, sage and garlic, so I guess tastes a bit like spicy chicken and a bit like stuffing. Yum :p

Evening everyone, just had a rather scrummy tea..even if i do say so myself..
Hmm little tale first..folk take pity on you if you start doing things like this..my sis turned up today and had just been to farmfoods..she bought me a £10 special, which had a roast beef, bacon, sausage and steak in it...v.good value and thought it would help me...it sure did!!

so tea was free tonight , well the meat was..so we had steak ( if paid for £2.25) Potatoes-25p, broccoli-10p ( bought ages ago and frozen) sweetcorn, about 10p, mushrooms and onions, 15p -too stuffed for pud..so 60p tonight! Cue evil chuckle..mwahahaha If fully paid for it would be £2.85, 4 decent sized pieces as well and they tasted very good, not rubbery or nasty!

Now to work on rest of family for free grub....and real meat, am looking forward to Sunday roast!

So total today is about £1.50,soup, bread, extra fruit, porridge and milk was dearer as not on offer at the moment.

This thread/board is a real eye opener for me. I'm a DFW'er and have popped in and out of OS just to enjoy the threads and banter (lurking of course ;)) for a year or so now but have never actually decided to convert....until now. Money is really tight due to me taking a 50% pay cut to have a different job which would give me a better life and so OS is the way to go, I just got no idea where to start as OH is the complete opposite! He moans that we spend to much money, waste too much money, says I need to get a better paid job again but then will spend 3 hours (yes 3 hours) in Mr T's looking at every condiment they sell or the luxury museli. In fact he heads straight for the reduced section at the weekend but insisted on buying 2 pieces of sirloin steak because it was reduced to £6.93  (we are a family of 5 ) I feel it's a losing battle.

Sorry Weezl, not jumping in on your thread, but basically wanted to say thanks to everyone giving me fantastic ideas, I'm so jealous of the lot of you! Plus any tips would be fantastic :)

    xx
