just made a suprisingly tastly dish
1 packet of cheap own brand sage and onion suffing. add half a large onion chopped, 1 teaspoon dried tarragon and half teaspoon dried english mustard, a few cubes of strong cheddar and some ripped pieces of cooked sliced ham. [ quantity to taste but not a lot!] add hot water, press into bowl and cook half hour 180C. i topped it with a slice of buttered white bread which goes crispy and becomes the base when its turned out.
this is delicious, serve with a HM tomato sauce, green salad or veggies and perhaps a jacket potato. leftovers can go in the fridge and be sliced for sandwiches or eaten colsd with a green salad.

I haven`t got any ramekins and want to make the puddings in the slow cooker. Some of my cups will fit in there nicely. We took some coconut cake on our travels today and it was still wonderful, day 4

Fantastic thread - there's only me and my DD(7-years and learning not to be so fussy an eater now Ex has moved out ;) ) and when I said what this thread was about she said "bet we can do it on 10p":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: I think not!!! It will be a very long time before I can get anywhere near even £1 a day for the two of us but the inspiration here is much appreciated! I will be following avidly...as I try and work my way through the other thread properly :o:rotfl:

Quick update before I launch into asking all my questions of you all...

    Day 7 stats:

Weezl breakfast: 2 eggs, 16p and a bagel from ISOM, clearing out before SW started :D Lunch houmous sandwich 3p, supper liver casserole and rice 30p total 49p
Mr Weezl: muesli and 2 HM toasts with orange marmalade -8p Lunch 2x baps with houmous 2 x cupcakes- total 10p dinner, penne with garlic, tomato and rosemary sauce 23p Jammy sponge 4p day total 45p

plus cups of tea- 5p all day

great recipe zarazara,;) I shall add it to the new index, when I've invented it. Probably tomorrow, as am sleepy weezl now!:o

Jo1972, I really love it when people share their stories on this thread, so please don't feel it's 'jumping in', you are very welcome, it's lovely to have your input.
:D Felt a bit  with your OH on your behalf, I hope you can help him to have a lightbulb moment, I'm sure you can!

    Hello amazon_spice! :hello::D

BOB! reeeeeeeeeesult! go bob go! You beat me today, I'll have to try super hard tomorrow (no, just joking, I'm not that competitive!;)) You've probably heard this tip a million times, but if you usually have green top or red top milk, you can make your milk cash go further by buying blue top and diluting!

Some poor soul on the grocery challenge had a few horrid cuppas before she and her OH realised they were both doing it :rotfl:

redsquirrel, your day was very bargainous too :T:T:T:T and all sounding nomnomnom, can I/you put a linkie to your parcels recipe on your thread? I think everyone here would like it too!:D

cw18, aww! gutted the pate didn't go down too well! I think it does taste very buttery 'neat' but I think our HM bread is quite dense, so it feels like it needs the butteriness in our sarnies:o. Glad you know what tweaks will suit you better for next time tho!

phizzimum and plum pie :T:T:T:T:T:T broad bean houmous, cracking stuff! Please post how it tastes? Save the pods too, they're edible! And plum pie, those lemon buns are such a bargain. Asda smart price lemons would make them 2.1p a bun :money::money::money:

mama67, good tip on the prices:beer:, phew what a shopping around marathon you had!

carrieB, I'll download that pig programme, thanks!;)

shaz, hiya, good to see your meal plans! I guess the rain is taking care of your raised bed tho? What ratio horse muck to compost? And what veggies will go in? sorry to be so nosy :D

HMKN pmsl :rotfl::rotfl:at you buying all those adventurous cuts of meat, trotters and the like, and you're a veggie:D!!! Thanks for the tip on asking for them.

pebbles88, I think we need a thread for all these naughty DHs to join and have an epiphany! Like you had, sianthegreen;););). Moggylover, we can follow them round the supermarket menacingly (the men not our sian!)

moanymoany! I loved little house on the prairie! I wondered where my early development as frugalista had come from!

Ceridwen, I'm gonna look see what my council has to offer re compost now...:A:beer: p.s still lovin Richard Mabey, he comes with me on the train!

ISOM, don't work too hard, you've the weekend to catch up from, rest well lovely.;)

phew, lots of lovely folk to say hi to!

Zoegirl, I saw a recipe from NZ which was like a pesto made with green olives? Have you had it? is it nice?

Bit of a sleepy Weezl now so will head for my bed.

Would anyone like any more nutritional research doing?

    Love you all,

    Weezl x

Hiya Penny penguin, well spotted! It's not fresh, but it's there, everyday, since I did a bit of research on the '5 a day' The first few weeks of the last challenge I was a bit lax!

The liver casserole has 1 portion each of onion, 2 of tomato and 1 of spring greens in it. The houmous sandwich has my pulse allowance of one of the 5 (but I don't think I have enough to get a whole portion. only 20g for me) Foraged rocket 50g in my sarnie for another half and I'm there, (by the skin of my teeth!) I should really have the jammy pud, but I'm stuffed!

Mr weezl's pasta is a 4 veg portion (onions and tomato) and the jam/compote in the sponge gave the full 80g portion (you should see the size of his pudding!).

Other folk have suggested I up it to 9 portions a day, but from my reading, it seems wiser to make sure all the colours feature. (though today I notice we've both only managed 4 colours! D'OH ;).

Erm, hope that's what you meant? Ask again if in my sleepiness I'm bein a bit twp (welsh for dim!).

Hope the race went well :T:T

    Love Weezl x

ps edited to say, I think if you're not growing a few things, this new budget might not fit the 5 a day! I'll have a ponder... BOB are you doin ok for veg?

I was always told you can't count the same thing twice in a day, so even if you have a double portion of tomatoes (or a single portion at each of two different meals) then it only counts as 1 of your 5 a day

Evening Weezl, sounds like a yummy day's food!

Parcels recipe is on page 13 of this thread.. pesto one is as below..

Spinach pesto.. fry some garlic in a little bit of oil, add spinach (I had some basil in the freezer too so put that in for a little bit more of a pesto taste).. when spinach is wilted, take off heat, grate in some parmesan, and then blend in food processor until it's pesto consistency! Have made it with pine nuts in before as per proper pesto but not necessary.

Nettle & dandelion one essentially the same but leaves stuck in a basin and washed with boiling water to get rid of dirt and kill stingy bits first! Note - both nettles and dandelions have diuretic properties, i.e. make you wee lots! Bob has given me the idea of marketing this as pesto with added water retention cure... :rotfl:

Hello sleepy Weezl and others! Dont worry I am ok having spet the majority of yesterday asleep! Went to bed at 8.30 & straight to sleep & that was after my 2 hr kip!! Well & truely rested & forgot (again!) to give Mr Weezl the yog....Just had a lovely time at book group so worry not me lovely I am well :) Hope you have a nice snuggle in the Weezl cave....(no thats not rude for those who interpret it as such!)
Re the nettles I thought you had to BOIL for 2 mins to get rid of the stingyness?
Re compost from our lovely council free Weezl...alas not! You have to pay for "soil improver" and they sell it by the tonne..(about £10 from recollection...).(how would either of us transport a tonne I wonder in out miniscule autos?)...theres always spare manure at the plot you can pilf :)
Lovely to see so many lurkers come & say hi! Am also off to sleep...sleep ight weezlites!
