hi you just use the water that the hock has been boiled in it shouldn't be to salty but test it first to see if it is to salty for you if so use half the stock water .
there is no need to change the water just skim the top if it looks frothy0 -
Afternoon all
Having another lazy day ..but not getting much crafting done...my stupid arm is playing up so knitting is v-e-r-y slow  and im pooped for some reason so can feel a nap coming on :rotfl: ....
Have to strip the chicken off and prep the veggies n cheese sauce for dinner tonight first (if i don't I won't want to do it when I wake up).. going to turn the bones straight into stock then soup... have loads of onions, a few sweet potatoes, some rubbery celery that i can use up with whatever else I come across in the fridge that wants using
Sorry, can't remember who asked about the stuffing.. I make it into balls and cook them, then cool and freeze..once defrosted -just a couple of mins in the oven with the roasties and they are just like fresh made :T
Right -off to do the cauli/broc cheese, soup, prep the veg, strip the chicken and THEN collapse on the sofa for an hour
InSearchOfMe... I stopped "dieting" :rotfl: no low fat, low cal garbage... no counting fat grammes, points , sins etc :T ..ooh and lost another 1lb this week-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
Had another driving lesson today..so roads now safe once more as wont be on them again today! Watch out tomorrow tho when I am!
Just sat here taking a break from work and was thinking how daft I have been all these weeks! I love this thread and see many of you like a distant member of my family, love all the stories etc....warm and fuzzy!! Was just thinking however that as I started reading this thread that I should have copied the recipes from it as I went along. Now going to have to go back and re-read 164 pages!! Yikes!! Guess what I will be doing this weekend if I get a chance.
DH tried the cherry and amaretto jam I made yesterday on his toast this morning. Still had some whole cherries in it and he said it was yum, think next time however I will mash the cherries a bit more tho.
Have dinner ready for tonight and afraid it came out of a jar. Balti curry with ummmm added spinach as I love the stuff and store bought nan breads that needed to be used. One day I will try and make a proper curry but cant seem to get them as nice as you all do. Even tried Weezle's saag aloo and it was soooooo dry but going to give a go again when I can concentrate on it more, think I was in too much of a hurry! I know it was my fault and certainly not the recipes fault *shaking head*
We go to a local indian here in town that is too die for, been open about a year now and lovely owner gave me his recipe for chicken chaat that can be done veggie instead if needed. Plan on going to find a nice asian market to get the bits to make it myself as it is my absolute fav!!
Well back to work I go for a bit, be back laters!!
huggles all around

spotdogkez wrote: »Weezl - This is very interesting. I have been looking at the value turkey legs for a while bit wasn't sure how much meat you could actually get from one. I do have a slow cooker, but haven't had it long and would be grateful for your advice on how to cook the turkey leg in there - ie low or high and for how long - do you put liquid in etc? Any help very gratefully received.
TIA
I started mine on high for about 3 hours and then realised it would be ready way early at that rate, so it went down to low for 3 more hrs. The meat can look pinkish on those even when fully cooked (turkey dark meat often does, i find) but testing to see that the juices run clear is a good test for doneness. I've roasted them in the oven before, but I find them hard to carve as there are long ligaments which run up the leg, and make it hard to get the meat off. In the slo cooker, I just stabbed it with a knife a few times during cooking, and by the end it just fell of the bone!;)
I didn’t find I needed extra liquid, just a little salt and pepper, and it gave off it’s own juices which formed the basis of a nice gravy.:T
Check your SC will fit the joint first tho! It’s easier if yours is elliptical rather than round IYSWIM!?
Best of luck with it…:j
Munchki, sorry the saag aloo was dry, maybe you could add more oil, water or another can of toms until you get a consistency you like? Sorry if it was the recipe, I have had a few pregnancy cookery mishaps!:D
Been looking after my friends little girl today. She's a complete delight. Almost made me think this imminent ish parent thing might be ok!!!!:T
About the index of recipes, I honestly will get round to updating, I just keep getting put off by the sheer size of the thread!!!! Sorry.
ISOM coming round in a minute to show off her bargains, so looking forward to that!
Love to all,
Weezl x

Munchki
There is a good Asian supermarket in Nottingham called "hansons" that I can get you directions for-I would have to ask DB as i have the sense of direction of a flip flop
:rotfl:
OOOohh why I think about it..I don't know where you get your meat from.. but can i recomend the "indoor market" the middle stall of the 3.. my mum uses it (does belly pork to kill for;) ).. mum went today and got 10 big slices and I mean BIG for just over £3 and minced beef was £1.39 i think and mum got 3lbs for £2.95.. seems the more you buy the cheaper you get it :T ..then she scuttled off home to portion it up n wrap for the freezer
well I have the stuffing made, the cauli/broc steamed, the cheese sauce made, the chicken stripped and the stock on pheeeewwww i have 3 tubs of the cauli/broc cheese going in the freezer and the stalks etc going to make soup in the morning :T

Weezl, certainly was not you or your recipe but me!!!!! I was in a hurry and not having a good day anyway the day I decided to try it. Everything I did that day just did not turn out! eeerrrrrrmmmmm and if truth be told I think I forgot to add the toms all together! Am going to give a go again next week and have no doubt it will be wonderful!! I am looking forward to making it right this time!I am somebody. I am me. I like being me. And I need nobody to make me somebody! Louis L'Amour0 -
Mrs M, have never got meat there before but know which one you are talking about. Mentioned the other day to hubby when we went in to get veg that we should give them a go as the prices seemed quite reasonable!! Have a full upright freezer at the moment but will give a try in a few weeks when I need to stockpile. usually go out to Thorsby Market to the meat van but will try this butcher as well. I love the little butcher by Klick in town. Always sells me about 20-30 chicken wings for a quid or two and I love them for eating as hot wings or for in soups.
thnk you for the info.I am somebody. I am me. I like being me. And I need nobody to make me somebody! Louis L'Amour0 -
Afternoon everyone !
Hope you are all well. Mrs M ..... must be a 'Friday thing' as I had a 'rest' on the sofa this PM too ! Well it is my first week back at work !Hope you feel ok after your snooze xx
Before I had my 'rest' though I managed to get all the sandwiches done for pack-ups next week (in the freezer - never thought of freezing them before  !) Did a shepherd's pie for dinner, just got to heat it through and grabbed an apple pie out of the freezer that I made a couple of weeks ago. I wanted to make a spotted !!!!!! but thought I might leave that until tomorrow night - have a Guide meeting tonight and didn't want to go and fall asleep half way through because i'm full up !
Really looking forward to the weekend here, got our local town show tomorrow so might be able to get some goodies from there (horticultural stands etc) and if the weather is good on Sunday we're off to the pick/dig your own farm round the corner to get next week's veggies. Then it's a garden-fest for the afternoon - got lots of clearing up to do now stuff has finished and the grass is about 12" long !
I've got a fairly rubbish week next week as we are having all our heating system ripped out and a whole new one put in (new radiators, boiler and water tank) so my house is going to be a mess and i'm going to be really stressed  ! I don't think I will get much cooking done at all and i'm generally a pretty tidy person and I hate living in a mess so will probably be pulling my hair out by the end of the week. Must remember to go and buy a nice bottle of wine for next Friday night !!!
Ohhh....... I bought my cake tin today for the Xmas cakes (they've not got their little novelty decorations in yet so i'll have to wait for those) but i've made a start. Just got to find a good recipe now so if anyone can recommend one i'd be very pleased to receive suggestions !
Hope everyone is well, going to catch up on posts before dinner.:jWeight loss to date 1st 11.5lb :j0 -
Hi everyone :-)
Hope all of you are well and happy. Shaz...them photo's are beautiful. Was going to still one and have it as my desktop???!!!
Mrs M...thanks for the stuffing recipe...definately going to try it.
I made a cottage pie, using minced beef and lentils!!! Didn't go down that well! He said...uuurgh..what are they. I said mince...he said thats not mince...you've put them lentils in my dinner. He said it didnt taste any different, but he didnt like the texture of the lentils. Maybe I will soke them for longer next time and maybe use a little less :-)I'm a frugal wannabe
