My mum has been into town today..and on her way back has noticed lots of blackberries out... so Munchki..Get off up garden lane..the bit that goes up the side of the playing field/all weather pitch and get picking:rotfl: .... There's nothing like "virtual" foraging from another country is there
You know Mrs M. I bet I have seen your mum walk past my house!! I am literally at the start of the wall to the Park!! If it were not for the bloomin rain I would be out there gathering berries! Much better than working anytime!:rotfl: Last year there were tons of berries growing through the fence, however they have cut most of them back:mad: Will have to have a wander if the rain stops. BTW say hi to your mum for me;)I am somebody. I am me. I like being me. And I need nobody to make me somebody! Louis L'Amour0 -
Whoo Hoo!! I'm home, and with two large carriers of apples :j
The lady I met (not posting a name, as she said she's currently only a "lurker" -- but I've told her to join in as she'd be more than welcomed) also gave me a small rosemary plant as she'd ended up with three and wouldn't use them all
She also gave me a tip for getting some tubs for my garden.....
Apparently Asda will let you have the black buckets they keep the cut flowers in, and all you have to do is drop a donation into their current charity tin. As I've read in the past that potatoes will grow well in buckets (and they're easier to harvest this way as all you have to do is tip the bucket -- which is good news for my bad back) I can see I'm going to be fighting her and her husband for them at the local store now :rotfl:
CW - I got hold of some of those pots several years back when I was working in a garage, the flower supplier had some he wanted to get rid of. I grow my tomatoes, peppers and chillies in the greenhouse in them and they work really well for that.
I have grown 2 potatoes in one compost sack turned inside out this year for the first time. My Dad always grew potatoes, but it put me off growing them seeing him spear the crop with his fork, and seeing all the missed ones growing up again the following year, usually in the wrong place in the middle of a different crop. Plus I have never had enough room to feel I could spare the space. I have been looking at the sack for a few days now thinking that the foliage has died back, so maybe I could tip them out. I think I'll go and do it now and let you guys know how many I get - back in a bit0 -

I have this lovely image of your garden looking like it's out of a fairy tale!
I made a really cheap dhal yesterday which was delish! Thought I would share the recipe with you guys. Was sooooo filling with rice.
200ml red lentils
600ml hot water from the kettle
About 1/3 of a chicken stock cube
About 1/3 of an "individual" packet of coconut cream (have frozen remainder)
2 tbsp Korma curry paste
1 tbsp mango chutney
Dissolve the stock cube and coconut in the hot water. Heat the curry paste in a pan. Add the lentils and stir about for a couple of minutes. Add the rest. Simmer for 45 minutes so it really bulks out and thickens.
I forgot I added three grated carrots with the coconutty stock! Sorry about that!!!! Have put in bold so hopefully jumps out at those who have already looked at it!Love and compassion to all x0 -

Well, even tho me, hubby and DD (not 2 yet!) polished it off entirely we were sore about 5 minutes later once it had settled as we had stuffed ourselves so much! Really, I should have frozen half of it and it would have been enough with plenty of rice :rolleyes:Love and compassion to all x0 -
Ohhh Munchki...
I was telling mum where you were and we were trying to figure out where exactly you were..and we came up with the house at the edge of the field in that block of about 4/5 houses befor Charles street.. are you the one with the gates/drive?
When mum was tootling past today on her way back from the fat farm (WW)she said ask that "nice lady" if she was having the plumbers to her house today? if not, was she stood on the doorstep having a smoke in the next house along :rotfl: my mum watches far too many detective programmes :rotfl: I did point out that she was making me sound like a stalker:eek:..which im not of course ..honest
My mum tootles along with one of the 4 wheeled push along "wally trolleys"
That sounds like one heck of a crop Lesley..will deffinitely get some of those to try...
I love heritage seeds.. I have some apricot brandywine tomatoes and they are bloomin ugly but taste stunning -which is the main thing.. I hate the uniform, even perfect sized stuff that tastes of nothing - so im trying to decide which others i want..whilst trying to be sensible... feel free to share any other veggies you have grown and would recomend
Do you save your seeds from the fruits for the following year? I will be doing :rotfl: I allready do with tomatoes, peppers, chillies etc -saves a fortune:D
I will let you know about the sweet potatoes.. they are supposed to need 150days of warmth...don't think they are going to get THAT this season
ooh im really happy... i have a marmite obsession -here we can only get 125g jars for nearly €3 about £2.40:eek: so hubby asked a mate to get us some whilst back in the uk.. he has just come back with 6X500g jars :j it cost him £4.50 a jar ...it would have cost us £9.60 each  but hubby is doing some work on his sons car..so the guy is getting the parts and paying hubby 6 jars of marmite and a crate of beer :rotfl:So its a win/win situation all round-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
