Allegra, yes please to frugal recipes...have moved to having something veggie at least one day a week and giving OH a piece of some type of meat on the side, he can't live without meat unless we have fish that has almost jumped from sea to oven...when DS3 goes fishing.
Weezl...I love blackberries mashed with sugar...cream too if I have it, patiently waiting for some to ripen here, going looking to-morrow, but we seem to have had so much rain that they have rotted in bud so not going with very high hopes. Keep well.
Sleep well all

Ooh yes, you might find you need to eat a bit more. If you plan to breastfeed, which is really moneysaving and also very good for baby Weezl's health, you need to have a few extra calories per day. Not loads, but it does mean you get back to your pre-pregnancy shape sooner. Also, you do not need to buy those "growing up milk" things advertised - breastfeed till 12 months and then baby can have full fat cows milk instead of the commercial "Aptamil" crap or whatever is advertised. There are so many baby related things which you can spend money on but really all you need is somewhere for baby to sleep and somewhere for baby to rest eg a swing or chair or anywhere. I would so recommend aiming to breastfeed as it saves both time and money and although it is hard to begin with it gets easier than making up bottles. Ellie x0

Hi All
This is the first time I have posted a reply to any forum, so if I breach protocols, let me know.
I use blackberries instead of blueberries in muffin recipes, taste really great.
Can post a recipe if you would like.

I'm not sure about the veg, but I did enter runner beans and they had to have the stalks on. I just put them on a paper plate, and most of the others were too. I noticed the tomatoes were on a little pile of sand on a plate and the onions were on little rings (you could use cut down loo roll tubes) if that helps.
Only the victoria sponges got told off for no doilys, and I think that's a WI thing. If the WI are judging yours, fill the jars to the top, don't use celophane or waxed discs if you also have a screw on lid and don't use an obviously commercial jar (mine had Hartleys written on the lid!) and definitely not a coffee jar!
Good luck!! Ours was a fun day.

first time posting on this thread, just been reading your nettle recipe's and hubby said he will try anything once so thought we would try the nettle pesto with some pasta, i take it you need gloves to pick them, are the smaller nettles better????? how long do you have to cook them for for them to loose their sting??????????? bit nervous i wont do them right

Try Spiced Chana Dhal with Spinach.
1 cup yellow split peas (chana dhal)
1 cup water
1 tbsp vegetable oil
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1 onion, thinly sliced
2 garlic cloves, crushed
1 inch piece root ginger, grated
1 red chilli, finely chopped
1/2 tin spinach (or an equivalent amount frozen spinach)
1 tsp garam masala
1/2 tsp salt
That sounds good and have most ingredients.
Recently bought yellow split peas just out of interest.... I have ginger powder and chilli powder as well as fresh spinach - reckon it will work????
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -
