  • Ooh, what if you made a meringue topping rather than pastry mrs m? Looks delicious.
Had an amazing break on Beach Mission, really enjoyed it and was fed to the limits of my stomach, porridge every morning, homemade rolls every lunch time and a cooked dinner every night. Mmm. Have come home to find that was a leak when I was away and housemate who moved out has taken the microwave and toaster, only 2 weeks then on to a more friendly house :)

Well pepys I can confirm that the Weezl's are (a) alive and (b) havent killed each other yet - although dont know how - there would be serious bloodshed if I'd been decorating that long! oo sian the green sorry to hear re nasty flatmate taking microwave and toaster...from the beach mission comment can I assume that you are of the Christian variety?! Just having a break from getting my dyslexic brain to suss out this kimono pattern...definately NOT the easiest thing to start with lol!

Never even thought of the translation of ekky thump before :rotfl: ... ok.for "ekky thump" insert... "eee by gum" ;) or "well I never" :p ...or well bless my soul its very yummy :D

...or one could stick this in the ceridwen vernacular "Cor...lovely" then:D

On that thought - I decided to do sausages (vegetarian!! of course being me) and potatoes for dinner tonight. Wanted some vegetarian gravy to go with them and had quick "heartsink" at thought of yer average vegetarian gravy. So looked up onion gravy recipes. Have just tried one out and duly give it below (with a couple of ceridwen adaptations already put in - but it could be "weezelised" I reckon to make it cheaper:D ). 'Twas luverly...or as our Weezl would put it "nom, nom, nom".:

    ONION GRAVY
(probably meant to be for 4 - but I reckon its for 2)

1 large red onion (roughly chopped)(could be weezelised to ordinary onions)
    1 clove garlic (finely chopped)
2 Tablespoon olive oil (could be weezelised to cheaper oil)
    1 small knob butter
    1 level Tablespoon plain flour
1 teaspoon Marigold vegetable stock powder (made up with boiling water to 350ml worth)
    1 level teaspoon Marmite
    1 teaspoon soy sauce
1 teaspoon balsamic vinegar (not sure what one would weezelise that for)
    black pepper

    - Heat oil and butter on low heat. Add onion and start sauteing.
    - After 5 minutes add the garlic.
    - Saute this till the onion is soft and transparent.
    - Stir in the flour.
    - Add the stock gradually, stirring constantly.
    - Add the rest of the ingredients.
    - Bring to boil. Simmer very gently 10-15 minutes, stirring every minute or so till it thickens.

    UMMMM....

It struck me as a way to give a bit of va-va-voom to cheapie food.

    Good one!

(NB: On another thought - ISOM - hope all goes well with you gal re your forthcoming event for t'week.).

    Evening all

Mama67.. I will dig you out the recipe i use..although i do vary it by adding extras as the urge takes me :p

Sian ...mmmm now theres a thought :T .. I have allrweady decided that i could do it with mincemeat through at xmas...or any other time as i love mincemeat ...

Cerediwen.. never thought of it before.. I make my own sausages and so have a whole recipe book of sausages..i will have a look at the vegetarian alternatives tonight.. see if there are any that you might be able to use ;)

Well i have been out cutting away old leaves from the veggies... and took the big round courgette off to give the plant more energy to grow more ;) It weighs exactly 1lb ..now -just have to decide what to do with it :rotfl: , Got another 1lb of tomatoes of..still mainly the smaller yellow pear, cherry, plum etc... the big beasties are still waiting to ripen (hopefully by that time i will have made some room in the freezer to store some more :o )..

I was planning on not spending any more of my budget before we start a new month on the 25th..but all the leaflets were delivered again today..so i sat looking through -I know how to spend a sunday morning don't i !!:rotfl: ... and anyway i have seen a 10kilo net of potatoes for €4.99/£4 and a 5kilo net of onions for €1.99/£1.60.. so im sorely tempted :D

Hubby gave the cake the thumbs up..but we both agree a bit of vanilla ice cream or thick fresh cream would make it perfect :D ..i have cut and stashed the other 6 pieces in the freezer :T

I have lots of leftover chicken so i think i may make a kind of chicken lasagne tomorrow.. using some of the courgette and fresh tomatoes ;) and i have some tubs of hm cheese sauce in the freezer ....which as a bonus will make a bit more room in there :j

Im going to sit this evening and try and plot what veggies im growing next year and where so i can see what else i need to pick up... need to get organised -just incase i do decide to do a blog ;) :rotfl:

have a great evening everyone :D

    Hmmmm....

numbers 1, 3, 4, 5 and 8 sound good to me out of those sausages you mention Mrs M ...purlease.

Re the copyright mention......actually I was surprised to read t'other day that there isnt any such thing as copyright on recipes. Looks like there is on other written material - but not recipes....according to a certain cookbook writer....reason: as there's only a certain number of recipes around and over the centuries they've been adapted and copied so many times anyways.

Well...that was what was said...so I'm just reporting it back for what 'tis worth...

Hmmmm...this would seem to confirm what was said, as far as I interpret it:

    http://www.recipezaar.com/help/faq?section=3

    (scroll down to 5th paragraph)

I cant swear to it - but I would rather take it as meaning that if I wrote out a recipe that (to the best of my knowledge) I had never come across the like of before - that someone else could copy out my ingredients and my method - they just couldnt put any quirky ceridwen type comments I had put in my own language in the course of it. It would seem that someone could copy out the onion gravy recipe I put then - but wouldnt be "allowed" to add my comments about "luverly or - as Weezl would put it...nom, nom, nom".

hello all. thanks c! Just want it over cos I know it will hurt plus I'm not very good at being knocked out (loss of control?)...hae been having an interesting afternoon and have ascertained that (1) dyslexics and dress patterns are not a good combination (2) am pleased I got the cheap fabric cos some unpicking will be needed! (3) its quite incredible what you can achieve with a bit of guess work!! (4) unless mum can assist on Thurs night there aint no way I will be wearing said kimono into hospital which was the reason I wanted it! Must remember patience is a virtue..alas one I am not good at!

  • ISOM, you would be right in your assumption, this was my 6th year on that Beach Mission and my favourite so far, an amazing team, pretty good weather and God did some awesome things :-)
