Back again just to update you all on how successfully you have converted me to the frugal way.....
..... I went shopping with my OH on Sunday and where our normally weekly shopping spend can be between £40 - £60 we spent £11.04
We did a cupboard/fridge/freezer inventory before we left and chose our meals based on what we already have in and not just what we fancy.
Today I will be eating:
Breakfast -
Banana (10 whoopsed in Asda for 25p)
Weetabix (already in cupboard, the box is ages old so decided to eat them instead of buying fresh cereals!)
Lunch -
Homemade carrot soup (already in freezer from last week)
Homemade potato bread (I own a breadmaker and a cupboard full of ingredients I've just got lazy, had also been wondering what to do with potatoes in cupboard and then found recipe on this thread).
Dinner -
Lamb keema with rice (Minced lamb in freezer, onions and tomatoes in fridge, spices in cupboard, rice in cupboard)
I know it all seems pretty obvious but normally this is not the way it works in my house!! :j :j :j :j :j
I've said it before but thanks again for the inspiration/motivation.Wandered away from the MSE track for a while but am back and on a mission! Debts cleared nearly £18k. Now to start saving ...0 -
Hello!
I am, feeling quite weezl-ish today - bought a loaf of reduced bread on friday, and made lentil pate, and now have a week's worth of sandwiches in the freezer! No.1 is with me at work today, can't wait to try it because I am still not convinced it will be ok after freezing:rotfl:0 -

I nearly cried this weekend when I saw outside a house, next to the bins, someone had left an old Kenwood Chef, in great condition with all the attachments. I was en route to a friends for dinner or I would have grabbed it. I hope it was left out for a Freecycler or similar or that someone deserving got it. I love my KC so much and they're so reliable.
Had quiet weekend domestically - my massive batch-cook and freezer-filling session last weekend meant I had time for other things. A quick trip to the supoermarket yielded some cheap apples and cheap spuds though.

Oh Sian,... is this the United Beach Missions that go down to beaches and do activities etc with the children and spread the word of God in a fun way?? If so I have to tell you that for 3 years on Paignton beach when I was about 8 I had the BEST time with the Mission! I made friends with some of the 'grown ups' running it and used to write to them over the winter too and they would send bible readings etc for us. (Such an innocent time, I should imagine that would be frowned upon these days). But my happiest memories are of the game and the competitions and then all sitting around while someone told a bible story but set it in the modern day to make it work for us! One year I won the happiest smile competition and the longest hair on a 8 yr old.. :rotfl:
My mother would lie on Paignton Green and sunbathe and my sister and I would vanish for hours with the Mission and have such a wonderful time. If this is what you are doing then all I can say is Well done and that the mission made a lonely little girl feel really important all those years ago, so carry on the good work!
Diva.xxTo be frugal, you need to spend money wisely, simply spending less is not enough. If you can't handle me at my worst then you don't deserve me at my best...Courage doesn't always roar. Sometimes courage is the little voice at the end of the day that says I will try again tomorrow.0 -
Hey Diva, slightly different as it is Scripture Union but very much the same idea, I have a lovely image in my head of you now as a little smiley Rapunzel
Learnt a valuable lesson last night- Don't drink mostof a bottle of cough syrup before bed, slept like a baby... for 10 hours... oopsGod is good, all the time
Do something that scares you every day

Sian - Cough syrups'll do that, but think of how the rest will make you feel better in the long run. Wish I could run the risk of it, been up early and bed late for the last five days, tomorrow will be just the same so I'm knackered
I've started day one of my mini challenge of not shopping in a supermarket for a week. So far have managed to procure fruit and veg at the fruit and veg shop, lentil from the weighing shop and some giant yorkshires for heron, really am gonna have to stop being so lazy and start making thouse myself. I'm going to make Weezls lentil pate on wednesday, and some other bakingables which I'm going to search the index for, fancy trying new stuff (any and all reccomendations accepted). Now MARRIED!11/09/100 -

They are usually £1.60 a dozen, and occasionally there are a few lumpy mis shapen ones in trays for a lot less. Today there were lots of bantam eggs for £1 for a whole tray, that's 30 eggs for 3.33p each - result!
tempted to get 2 trays, but thought better of it as I'm on this BORING food replacement diet so it's only OH who is eating proper food and there are only so many eggs he can eat
Spanish omelette for tea then (for OH)!
shoulda have got them and baked lots of cakes to freeze for the future
I wish I could get bargains like that, I'm paying £1.30 for 6 free range eggs :eek:0 -
