Wow! That sounds like a fantastic haul from your shopping trip!!!
Can't remember the last time we had steakBut we're on a "use up" month as much as possible, and I have spotted some tucked away in the freezer. Our grill blew just after Easter and the repair man hasn't yet managed to get a new element for it, so I can't grill anything (which is how I normally cook steak). Think these will have to be oven cooked in foil parcels with a bit of [STRIKE]butter[/STRIKE] marge and some herbs

hi everyone, just wanted to share that I have picked my second tub of foraged blackerries today and enjoyed homegrown lettuce and radish with my tea. Loved foraging and DS gf thought it was cool and like living in the country, so I let her pick the peas too as a treat , aw bless LOL.Eat food, not edible food-like items. Mostly plants.0

my son is starting to give me funny looks every time we meet in the kitchen.... on Saturday I was freezing mushroom, yesterday I was freezing onions, and today it was runner beans (got a pack on Whoopsie! that had 25% extra free and would have been too much for us even without that -- so I split it into two, sliced and blanched half which are now in the freezer, and we had the other half with tea)
Still got a bag of peppers to do, but don't think I'll get chance until tomorrow evening at the earliest -- as tomorrow is totally spoken for with DIY and a visit to my elder grand-daughter who will be 5 tomorrow !!! Boy, do I feel old !!!Cheryl0 -
Anyone know of any good places to forage in Liverpool?
I'm a bit unsure as to whether it would be wise to get blackberries near where I live. They're in a business park which has a railway (diesel trains) running through it but in quite a deep cutting and the blackberries are at the top of the bank. Its also quite a busy road with buses and trucks, but the majority of the planting is maybe 2-3m away from the road? Also considering people take their dogs walking in there, do you think it would be safe to go?DD is desperate to go and pick some

this recipe on shirley goodes blog might be a frugal meaty meal for you
Humble Pie: makes 18 x 2" (5cm) squares
8 oz (225g) chicken livers, trimmed
1 oz (25g) butter
2 oz (50g) mushrooms, sliced
2 eggs
1 lb (450g) sausagemeat
1 tsp dried mixed herbs
freshly ground black pepper
12 oz (350g) shortcrust pastry
Finely chop the chicken livers. Melt the butter in a frying pan and add the liver and mushrooms. Stir/cook for 2 - 3 minutes to brown the livers. Remove from heat and cool, then mix together with the sausagemeat, herbs, eggs and season to taste.
On a floured board divide the pastry in half and roll one piece into an oblong to line a baking tin 12"x 6" (30 x 15cm). Spread the meat mixture over the pastry, then roll out the remaining pastry and lay on the top. Brush with beaten egg and !!!!! the surface with a fork (or make small slashes with a knife). Bake for 30 minutes at 200C, 400F, gas 6, then reduce heat to 180C, 350, gas 4 and bake for a further hour. Cover lightly with foil (shiny side up) if browning too quickly. Cool in the tin then cut into squares to serve.

Nicki, you could try near the marina, if you follow the "coast line" out of town (as if you were going to Aigburth but the back roads IYKWIM) there's that little bit of a park type thing along there that had blackberries last year... but they've done a lot of development work on it recently so I don't know they might have cut all the weeds back?
There are loads of blackberry bushes in the forest where I live, they're not ready yet, but can't wait... and I must look them up but there's loads of crab apples (I think thats the name? little baby apple-like fruit? as I say, I'll have to look up to avoid poisoning!):rotfl: hawthorn and Rowan berries, none of which I'm sure can be edible but I will look them up! STILL not got around to eating nettles.
I'm on £15 a week food budget ( a cut from £25 for me) and doing ok so far. Intending to do this week on £10 and fingers crossed am looking like I'm going to make it!:T0
