You can eat all of those, naturally. Crab apples can pretty much be used like normal apples I think, and crab apple jelly is good. Similarly rowans and hawthorn. Came across the idea of hawthorn schnapps too, which is like sloe gin only with hawthorn and vodka. It's supposed to be nice, so I might give it a go and use for Christmas pressies if it works.
My old school used to do nettle soup and it was yummy. (At least we called it nettle soup, and I have no reason to believe it wasn't. Although we called one pudding Dead Man's Leg, and I'm pretty sure that wasn't true!). They did do homemade stuff as every now and then we'd have the most luscious chutney ever - all my life I've been trying to find a chutney recipe that tastes like that!0 -
Good Morning everyone...I seem to remember HM soap being talked about....is there a recipe??? I'm going to be making hampers for everyone for xmas (if I can find baskets to buy!) and thought HM soap would be a nice idea. My mum is allergic to yeast, so in hers I am going to be putting HM yeast free bread!!! and my sisters are getting HM cookies, got so many ideas, not all made by me...don't worry!!!! There would be sour faces looking back at me if that was the case!!! Appeciate a link to the recipe if it is on here please....94 pages is a lot!!!!! x x x

Hi
Just popping in. There's a fairly detailed soap recipe on the selfsufficient-ish website, though I'm sure other moneysavers will have ones just as good. Sorry but I'm such a wimp, i can't do links!'Whatever you dream you can do, begin it. Boldness has genius, power and magic in it. Begin now.' Goethe

Went out for some more blackberries today and came back with 2 ice cream boxes full, and that was without trying! The bushes are just dripping them now. A lady with a buggy stopped when she saw me and got out a carrier bag and picked a few, and as I was leaving the common another gentleman with a box was heading towards the bushes, so it looks like I will no longer be the sole forager there. Just so long as they leave my grapes alone - they are so mine!
Looks like the rosehips are just starting to turn - another couple of weeks and I can get my rosehip wine on the go.0 -
Thanks redglass!!! But what is the selfsufficient-ish website???
If you're on OS, I'm sure you're very sharp in many ways!
The site being referred to is www.selfsufficientish.com
If some one says 'the so-and-so website', just type 'so and so' into google and you'll probably get there.0 -
Thanks naturally and plum pie....I'll be checking out both!!!
