I have just taken my courgette cake out of the oven (along with buns to be iced and filled with jam :) ) it smells delicious! I used yellow and green courgettes - the yellow ones seem to disappear but there are bright green flecks from the green courgettes so I would say that if youhave fussy eaters... use yellow courgettes!! lol!

Wow yategirl you were quick off the mark ...........what do you think of it

Sammy it was definitely cakey very moist and didn't tast courgettey ....although bit strange looking with the green flecks

Its a Nigella recipe its supposed to have the cream frosting like carrot cake has and be filled with a lime curd:confused: ........................we had it plain with yoghurt :D

    Shaz

ps do your yellow courgettes get big??? mine get to about finger size then stop ???

    I've never seen a yellow courgette :(

other than growing them (not an option for me), where might I find them?

Well, I didn't realise my kitchen cupboards were as full of "nothing in particular" as they seem to be!!! I've spent a good 5 hours today doing a stock take of them, and I'm still only half way though

And once I finish them I still have 2 freezers and a fridge to do before I next go food shopping, which was planned for Thursday evening or Friday morning :o

I might manage to finish the cupboards tomorrow morning (got a non-food delivery coming sometime between 7am and noon, so have to be up and dressed by 7 -- then my Dad's here from around 10pm until a late tea-time to help with some DIY), so hopefully I can get the rest done on Thursday afternoon (after I nip into the office early Thursday morning).

have to admit.. I have never seen yellow courgettes to buy either :( I have always grown them and tbh, prefer them to the green ones....

Shaz - most are about a finger length when I pick them as [STRIKE]we[/STRIKE] I eat them raw! but they do get bigger if I leave them - I have had marrow sized ones before now!

not tried cake yet... had to try ds2's iced jam buns first! But the crumb I snaffled as i took the cake out the tin was yum :D

My thoughts precisely ISOM....our weezl as O.P. (with her brand of self-deprecating humour and niceness to us all) and -well, "alternative" posters......what - you mean - you peeked through my computer screen and saw conventional-looking moi and thought "alternative"? Heh! (it suits my sense of humour to look a lot more conventional than I am!!!:D ) and Yep....have spotted one or two others on this yur thread <waves>. Hiya - Shaz:D and everyone else that merits the "title":D

P.S. Our ISOM and our Weezl - have sent you both emails! ;):D - :hello: :shhh: - so judge for yourself on that one - but that there article/photo is for your eyes only gals!:D

couldn't agree more. When I occasionally venture over to other boards, it always surprises me how sharp people can be - we never get that here. I would love to take part more in the green fingered board as I love to grow things, esp edibles, but it can be little frosty over there sometimes

    I do a monthly thread there http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1060475 and I'm never frosty:D

I have noticed a lack of use of the thanks button from people that ask questions get good answers and never thank anyone  and that never happens here.
but do pop over and see me :)

Sure thing. My fav dough recipe at the moment is a whole wheat recipe.

1 and 1/3 cups warm water
    2 Tbsps oil
    1/2 tsp salt
    2 cups plain flour
    2 cups wholemeal flour
    2 tsps yeast

I do in the breadmaker mainly, on dough cycle large load lol. But I think you can freeze any dough pretty much. I have never had any failures yet...and I freeze all sorts of strange things.

And I recently tried this cookie recipe and froze some...

    Fudgy Choc Chip Cookies

    2 eggs
1 cup lightly packed soft brown sugar
    ½ cup oil
    1 teaspoon vanilla essence
    2 cups self raising flour
    ½ cup cocoa, sifted
    ½ cup dark chocolate chips

Beat eggs, oil and sugar, and vanilla, flour, cocoa and mix to combine. Stir through choc chips. Grease some baking paper and roll up a log of cookie dough and freeze or put in fridge. To cook from frozen or fridge, just slice thinly with a sharp knife and put on a tray. Cook very quickly in an oven at 180C. I made the last batch putting them in the oven as I took dinner out and turning it off at the wall and they cooked fine. I got two rolls out dough out of this, so can cook one lot and then the next lot as you need it.

Experiment with freezing dough to any recipe you like though. Like I said, I have never had any probs. If the recipe tells you to roll it into balls then it should be okay to roll into a log and freeze. If it is a really runny mix and you drop spoonfuls onto a tray and leave em there it will not be...

    Sorry to go on....

Those recipes sound great.....thankyou for posting them.....I will be giving them both a try....I cant wait to make the cookies....my OH will love them :j

Thanks Shaz...courgette cake recipe duly "sent" over to my private blog (ie my diary one) - as I reckon I could probably substitute honey for the sugar in my case and should still be okay pricewise.

(Having just discovered the "Send to" button on the top banner on webpages I'm sending everything everywhere - shame it only sends things as links one has to click on - rather than the full "deal" - but links will do till I try my way through all the recipes from here I've sent over and seen which meet with my approval for laboriously typing out. Whoops - really will learn to cut and paste one of these days:o ).

Hiya, hope this helps, but just thought I would say that to copy and paste, you can highlight what you need to copy, hold ctrl down and press c, then to paste, you click where you want it to go, hold down ctrl and press v. Hope that helps :o
