ashia, do post your meal plans if you feel like it, we'd like to know - nosy bunch eh?

    update on the sig:

Well there are 22.4 weeks of the challenge left, so I've got £5.33 a week between now and christmas eve. Feeling ok so far as every day I've calculated has come in bang on or just under budget. This will get a bit better once the garden yields a bit more, but then worse again methinks as winter hits!

Better leave some of those piggy pies in store for Mr Weezl's winter!

ISOM, rooting for you on the yoghurt! Thanks for the offer of the runny stuff, if it tastes like yoghurt maybe I could strain and use as raita? I've got no room in freezer tho so bread's out of the question alas!

  • Well as you are in a literary stance, howabout a tree with pigs teeth in it..It is one of the phrases in 'Howards End' which stands out the most!

Your book could be entitled 'Weezl's End'...the journey of a frugalist!

    Afternoon all

Well, I go away for 3 weeks and look at what i miss  how much have i got to catch up on???? :o i will go back and make a start in a moment -would hate to miss out on anything :p

Just thought id pop on and share a pic of the veggies that were waiting me when i got back from the UK ..i told the next door neighbour to use anything that was ready.but they didn't bother  mind they were going to look after the watering for me..but don't think they did  I have managed to save nearly everything so loads more will be ready soon ... i would have pole vaulted over gardens if someone told me i could have fresh veggies for free :rotfl:

    beansncourgetteqj3.th.jpg
I have allready turned the smaller courgette into a casserole with lots of garlic, onions, tomato, peppers, mushrooms and dried soya beans.. have 6 portions tucked away in the freezer....
The 3 different types of cucumber are lovely and all taste very different..
I have stashed some of the other veggies in the freezer -but just need to do something with the big courgette/marrow.. will find a recipe today im sure

As some of you will know i was back in the UK to spend time with sis who was terminally ill with cancer... the shock of seeing her after 6 months away was horrific-i would have walked past her if i hadn't seen her hubby  ... but she was so thrilled with how much weight i had lost that she made me promise to get the rest off and kep it off -so im on a mission now... and in an attempt to reduce my risk of cancer im altering my diet further...
so im sure i will be pinching recipes from here left right and centre ;) ... I allready eat very little red meat -so now i have removed it completely, and im upping my beans, peas, pulses, wholegrains, oily fish etc... i allready eat enough fruit n veg to sink a battle ship..so i will be picking all of your brains :D
Whilst i was back home i picked up 3 books:-
    • victory cookbook -marguerite patten for £2.99 i think
    • you are what you eat meal planner
    • and best of all the complete guide to nutritional health -which has so much information in about what is in food and what food helps what ailments etc, as well as loads of recipes. including tinctures and syrups.so i will be sharing those -after making slight alterations so as not to break copyrights :D
Yesterday i did a NAFFI whoopsie hunt and got plenty of milk, granary flour and loads of other stuff... should have cost me €79.91 but i got it for €36.21 :T and lots of it will last into the next few months:D
right i had better get off...need to make a start on reading the thread...wish me luck :p

:rotfl: about the snails.... how rude!!!

Hi everyone thought i would pop out of lurkdom to say how fab i think this thread and the previous one were.. i've been laughing my little socks off at so many of the antics that my cat thinks i've gone mad!!!

I have tried most of the recipes on here(excluding the pig head... sorry) and they are all the fabbest ever, OH is loving the variety of the meals we are having at the moment - previously it was oven chips & pizza, oven chips & pie, oven chips & fish - you get the idea!

I just thought i'd let you know that I baked the Weezl cookies this morning but instead of using the chocolate chips I used chocolate covered ginger pieces that i bought in a health food (?) shop... they cost me 48p for about 150g i think (sorry ate some of them before I weighed ooops) and they are delish....

Currently cooking the yogurt cake from the GC thread, although i've managed to do a loaf tin and 4 ramekins worth of mixture and i was only expecting one cake... and will be making the gnocchi in a short while!

so much fun this cooking lark, thanks for the help steering me back on the right path!

    Moo x

Just popping in for a quick hello!!

Took darling hubby to film last night....was pretty good!

Got up this morning and have been going non-stop

Washing all done, just need to do up the bed now. He has gone off to visit his mum for a bit which gives me a bit of me time.....ahhhhhhhhh

While he is gone think I am going to make his birthday cake for tomorrow. he loves carrot cake so think it will be a BIG cake with lots of cream cheese icing and then silver and gold candles. What you all think?

Got some mince while in town at the butcher so think will turn that all into little meatballs which hubby loves. Also want to bake those lovely choccie biccies from Weezl as well.

Oh yes and need to spray my poor little tomatos, noticed red spider mite just starting.....and refuse to let them eat them all!!!

So many tasks so little time!!

Weezl...just wondering if you had given any thought to that pm? Dont worry if not, i certainly wont be offended!

Have a wonderful rest of the afternoon and Iam sure I will be popping back in shortly!! Just cant stay away from this one!!

    love and huggles x

as a money saving newbie. I am trying not to waste any food. I have some 3 day old bread and I have read about people making breadcrumbs. Do I freeze the bread or do I make breadcrumbs and then freeze them and if so do they go soggy when defrosted

    thanks
