Odd announcement of the week coming up :beer: In order for me to be more frugal, I'm intending to spend £35 on River Cottage membership

The theory behind this goes like this: I like to make jam, no-one likes to eat the jam I make :rotfl:I like to eat bacon, I don't like paying for watery pap, therefore I should make my own, my OH adores fish [in fact, I think he is singlehandedly responsible for the dire condition of the UK hake stocks, or lack of them!:doh::o:rotfl:] and I adore salamis, sausages, chutneys, pickles, preserved stuff. This membership gives me access to 3 online courses which would individually cost £20 .... now, bearing in mind that I have the RC books already and that OH really likes RC & Hugh's take on cooking & life, the question is, "If I buy the online courses for £35 will it be worth it if it gets me back into the kitchen and garden/butcher's/fishmonger's, thus saving me money?"

Awaiting your comments with interest [from behind the sofa!:rotfl:in case you throw things at me!!]

    DG

Hmmmmm ........must go and google River Cottage online courses:whistle:

I spent quite a lot of money today :o

£2.65 on lunch (used up everything in the kitchen lol so no choice as I couldn't go shopping til this evening)
£9.99 on another crate of cider for wakestock (we won't run dry ;))
£7.76 up in smoke :o (it's a one-off for the festival so no biggie)
£29.84 on a LOT of food lol (should last a couple of weeks and save me a fortune on festival food prices)
£5.00 on a mixed box from my mate who works at the meat place
    £20.00 in the leccy meter
    £11.61 tv licence direct debit

    Ho hum...

I don't feel too bad though, as the fiver box contained:

4 x liver in red wine (yuk :()
    3 x steak in veg
8 x roast beef in onion gravy
1 x roast beef in gravy
    1 x brisket in gravy
    1 x beef stew
3 x steak and ale pie filling
1 x tomato bean and chorizo
    1 x mystery packet

So that's most of this months evening meals sorted hehe, just add vegetables and potatoes :D

Taking my own food and drink this weekend will save me a fair bit of money too.

The tobacco I could have done without I suppose, but I'd either get drunk and steal all my friends ciggies and annoy them, or end up buying overpriced ciggies from the vendors at the festival. Better be prepared lol, I know what I'm like when I'm drunk! I have no intention of becoming a career smoker again though, if I did I might as well quit the challenge today haha :rotfl:

Evening! Haven't been around much recently as my work has sent me to London quite a bit, and I'm too knackered when I get back to do much more than eat and sleep! Still, made it into the national newspapers, fame at last (I'm on the right) http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/uk/article4175417.ece

Despite all my meals in London being paid for, I had a major overspend for June, total spending £437 eek!!! That's mostly due to £100 in petrol and £140 for two nights in Margate in a fortnight's time... Looking forward to Margate though, my first trip away with OH. :D Slightly more frugal news is that I finally got paid for the days work for Lincoln Uni (nearly paid for the Margate trip from that), and I'm going up there for a week soon to earn myself a bit more, and catch up with my friends there.

House hunting in Swindon is on hold temporarily as a job has come up in Northern Ireland, and I'm really hoping that I manage to get it... fingers crossed! Should find out if I get an interview in the next couple of weeks.

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Marru, new business venture for you - cafe for doggies, maybe you have a japanese alter ego who is also doggy mad:D :D:D .

How is DD going on with the wetting problem? Tell her to watch out for postman in a few days I have sent her some rice bears, but only for good DD's;) ;);)

Thank you so much!! She loves those. Pants have been dry but she has started to use the floor. But not for couple of days now so I hope that the worst is behind. I am still in a process of putting the chart up.

Mumzy that holiday thingy was so great. Makes me wonder who with he ends up going for a holiday.

DG I think it is a brilliant idea and a bargain (I won't tell how much I paid for my recent course alone, never mind petrol, accommodation etc...) plus if it helps you be more frugal so that is a bonus.

I think there was something else I was going to say but forgot now. I still haven't had that supper I was so waiting for as I got a suprise free bet and I have tried desperately to find a match to it so that I can cash it but no luck so far. I miss Euro2008, come on football season! (Did I say that?)

Ok - 15 minutes more to find that match and then supper.

    Night night

MrDT, I wish you hadn't put in that link about the Dyson scam as I got so caught up in it I've had to skim through half the posts on this thread! Worth looking at though, especially the way the scammer or his accomplices joined the thread posing as genuine people and posted words of praise for his company. Fascinating... Have you read it, Nyk?

Lyndasharp, so that's you, is it? Not sure I'd recognise you though. :rotfl:

Whitewing - I was counting that as making it even more frugal .. except that I'd have to actually buy something from there, and what with the postage etc it'd COST me money to save £10!! Thanks for the support, nice to know that I'm not the only one with twisted logic:rotfl:

Sophie'sMum - don't do it, don't do it ... isn't it enough that ONE of us is tempted already
