I have a kingsize duvet. I put it in the bath and walk all over it. Nice clean duvet and nice soft clean feet. Only trouble is wringing it out and you need a really hot day to dry it.
This is a great idea, but I just don't have the physical strength to do myself, & OH is lovely but I can forsee hoohar if I try and coral him to do it. I might go for the half way soluton & wash at laundrette on very hot day and bring home to dry. Good thinking Zend.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Superb idea. I shall do that myself. Unfortunately not today though as it's beginning to rain.

i will try not to get into that habit through...

Be my quest as I don't have the foggiest of what it means! :rotfl:

Thanks for the tip about the duvet. I have used my summer duvet during last couple of winters as I haven't managed to wash my winter duvet :o (it got somehow covered with lots and lots of doghair )

Janey, what a dreadful position to be in. My heart goes out to you and your family. I think that the suggestion of an e-buffet order is a helpful one and I'm sure that we all wish we could just rush up there and help out.

I just looked at the Marks & Spencer website. They have a handy e-catalogue for the food, eg if you are organising a buffet. May be worth investigating that before you actually go shopping. You can also pre-order platters of sandwiches there.

Hi Janey, poor you, I hope you don't have to wait much longer.

Re the buffet, my friend used M&S buffet for her Dad's 65th birthday, it was a lovely spread, lots of choice and all came on silver(foil) platters so it looked nice too.

    Good: The sun's out again
Better: Have finally got around to totting up my totals to the end of June from Xmas Eve 2007 and I'm only a bit overbudget. (Mine excludes petrol, and wedding). At some point soon I may publish the categories.
Best: Am particularly pleased with my food shopping totals (includes household bits and bobs and medicine), which is £812.14 for 7 months (ie July's food is in the cupboards/freezer). This is actually lower than I thought. Winning the hamper earlier in the year helped. Also Xmas and Easter were spent with meals at families. MIL and DS have meals at work/school, so that helps too. MIL is doing most of the home cooking at the moment.

MrDT - I have some 'strawberry wine' on the go, so I'll do my bit and help get everyone drunk"

I have some strawberry wine on the go too! From all the leftover strawberries at last week's party. and thanks for the Dyson tale, he should be out the jail by now and the earliest record of the current scam is January 2008. That would be about right if he got put away for 6 months last July!!! Nice work on the meat box! (Oh! Does that look right?) As for the tobacco, what can I say? Other than admit to the fact that mum brought 10 cigs last weekend and there were none left when she went home. In my defence, it was a very traumatic time preparing for that party, but the 'special treat' did NOT make me want to start smoking again. :p

Funbrum - I need to dye my roots as the 'Mallen streak' has returned...it does every two weeks. I don't want to spend anything if I can help it, so I need some suggestions please, to hide the silver bits on my dark brown hair.

I have a friend who swears by beetroot juice! After boiling beetroot, she saves the water and uses it in her hair as it dyes 'paler' streaks burgundy. I don't know how you manage not to dye your hands of face pink though, as I have never tried this myself., especially as Semi-chem do a nice Shwarzennegerkopff (or summit like that) one for under £2

Mumzy - How is Charlie the hamster? Well done on the extra cash, too! I hope you didn't spend it on a holiday to Turkey!!! :rotfl:

Jumble-bee - Does that make you a 2-star frugeneral?

ButtonMoon - what a fantastic name! Welcome to the 4k challenge, the land of frugaltunity, sweet land of frugality and complete & utter money madness! Will get your name onto the challenger list asap. Have fun, feel free to post anytime and thanks for joining out party

Barefootlinzi - hope you got on OK with the rent people and I did PM you earlier :)

Andromache - have an absolutely fabulous time, get loads of photographs and make the most of all your 'together' time with OH before you end up juggling married life, work, femily committments etc, etc, etc... (Have you told your parents yet? :D )

LingoJingo thanks for the info about the £13k but I'm not THAT old and I have loads of birdfeeders in the garden :o

Mumzy, I think you should try college and train to be a frugal party organiser and chef then you can do the buffets for all the frugarty events in the future :T

Brighton Belle, on the subject of duvets... umm, my most frugal efforts include err.... buying a new one in the January sales for £10. I can't sleep with feather duvets or pillows, they irritate me, and it costs less to buy a new one than have an old one cleaned. The old ones can go in the big clothing & bedding recycling bins :) Otherwise, I'd bung it in at the laundrette if I lived anywhere near one, I guess. Naaaa, on second thoughts scrap that last bit, I'd probably still buy a new one for the tenner and save the hassle. :rotfl: I mean, err, Shocking, isn't it?!

[strike]Spud-u-like[/strike] Marru, How about a frugal poodle parlour for teaching canine etiquette?

Janey, thinking of you and hoping everything will be organised soon. It's nice seeing you on here despite everything you are going through right now. You know we are all here any time you need to chat :)

That's me just caught up with all the posts and now it's dinner time. Good grief, Charlie Brown! :rotfl: I've been so busy playing Snoopy, I haven't had the chance to check the forums or update my totals. Have a meeting tonight, too, but will try to catch up after that :) Off to make chicken wraps to use up some leftover tomatoes and party dips. The creme cheese/chive and the tex/mex salsa dips should turn chicken wraps into frugal Fajittas :D

MrDT - maybe we will have a huge party one day, but we'll need to wait until everyone has paid off all their debts then you can all find cheap digs about her - bring tents, pods, campervans and we'll have a frugarty with home catering helped out by Mumzy who will, by then, be a party planner or catering manager :D

When I used to work in a big dogrescue as a kennelhand in my murky past we were always short of duvets as we tried always give all our greyhounds a fresh duvet every day. They are so bony that they loooove sleeping on a soft duvet. So if any of you want to get rid of any then please contact your local dog/greyhound rescue.

Rushing now to get DD home...

Sorry to be boring and just go on and on about things like this.

janey - hope things get sorted out soon at the hospital, its awful being in limbo and not being able to get the arrangements sorted. It must be very frustrating for you.:grouphug:

Think we are in for a storm here tonight, the sky has gone a horrible black colour and the wind has started really howling all at once:rolleyes:.And here comes the torrential rain! I love sitting watching and listening to the rain when I am nice and toasty in the house.:D

Today i have filled up my car at the cheaper garage still cost £43  and it's only a Corsa. Not coming out of my challenge money though as I have just had my expenses for petrol so it can come out of that. I mostly use it for work anyway.
Not much else to report, except that I bought 24 tins of smart price peaches in asda today whilst shopping for oldies- that were reduced to 5p a tin:D :D dated sep 09, asked why they were reduced and was told it was because the labels are changing, currently have 19p on label but new labels have no price on them. Well I don't care as i got 24 tins for £1.20:j :j Got 24 tins for oldies too - peach flan Friday me thinks:D .More bargains from contingency fund. :D currently have a boot full of peaches as need to make space for them:o . Peach crumble marru???:rotfl:

    Forgot to mention this:

If anyone grabbed the opportunity of the 12 copies of Radio Times for £1 then don't forget to cancel you subscriptions if you aren't continuing with them. You can cancel online without a problem, I received email confirmation within 24 hours. I also still have copies lying in their polythene wrappers unread!!! I should have saved that £1 or else taken the time to find out what other people watched on TV! :rotfl:
