Janey, I'm glad you've posted. I was wondering how things are.

Sorry to hear that you haven't got your beloved Tom back yet. How are the arrangements going? I had to write obituries for my Nan and Grandad last year, and it was so terribly hard. You want to do your best ever at a time when you actually don't want to do anything.

I just looked at the Marks & Spencer website. They have a handy e-catalogue for the food, eg if you are organising a buffet. May be worth investigating that before you actually go shopping. You can also pre-order platters of sandwiches there.

My heart goes out to you and your family at this very difficult time...keep popping in to let us know how you are. We worry about you, sweetheart xxx

Day 2 of frugalisation:D . Every summer I take our winter double duvet to be cleaned. It costs£10 -15. So I am wondering if it would be cheaper to take it to a laundrette and bung it in a machine myself. Is it ok to machine wash duvets?
Marru - I'm not sure there is a finnish/japonese connection - my original jap link was a wrong assumption, based on family myth and I have had it confirmed by a japanese person currently living in Japan that 'satu marru' does not mean anything in Japanese, so maybe the 'marru' dog grooming place is a modern made up word, like we get here, you know, like spud-u-like.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days attack me at once

Son's duvet fits into our washing machine, and I've had no problems.

Some launderettes offer duvet washing services. Don't know the cost. Think the real limitation is if you can fit it into a machine. Also we don't have feather duvets, which may make a difference.

We don't tumble dry ours either.

Thanks white wing - ours is a king size double so won't fit in our machine. It is not feather. And it's the laundrette duvet washing service I am trying to avoid as it is £10-15. But if your son's synheyic duvet washes ok in a machine, that means mine should so I could maybe just pop to a laundrette and do it myself

I have a kingsize duvet. I put it in the bath and walk all over it. Nice clean duvet and nice soft clean feet. Only trouble is wringing it out and you need a really hot day to dry it.
