Thanks TTDB - I'm guessing that the family will definitely be questioning my sanity on this one, especially as I've DD's wedding to save for next year! If only I could see into the future and know for sure that I'm doing the right thing (or the wrong thing). Whatever happens, at least I already know I can grow tatties in buckets and live on a shoestring budget. :rotfl:

Nevadagirl, glad you are cheered up a bit, sorry you had a hard time with MS.

Job done if you ask me :D
NevadaGirl, you were in good hands with BB and Marru so hope you are feeling much better now x
Sounds exciting Nyk, got everything crossed for you!
Been looking at wedding readings, brother forgot to tell me they needed to be checked like 3 months in advance!! Some of them are sooo lame! If you know any unusual ones, do let me know (although he told me tonight he wants one that rhymes :rotfl:)

Hi all, got back from Swindon yesterday, I had a lovely time with family, wish I lived nearer. Can't believe how many pages you lot have added in a week! Too many to remember, so hugs to all who need them. Good luck with the house hunting Nyk, and with the 'man hunt' Marru. Hope your 'friend' is persuaded not to rip you off Bails. Well done Janey with Tom's memorial donations. I know it must be so hard for you, yet fantastic to realise how highly he was thought of by so many people.

Apololgies in advance, don't want to upset anyone, we do realise the seriousness of the following. but....
My 71 year old Mum just got her first ever speeding ticket. But instead of getting points on her licence she has the choice of attending a speed awareness course. The letter about it states that bad behaviour won't be tolerated, in fact anyone behaving in an unacceptable manner will be ejected from the course and won't have another chance.
"Oh Mum, you'll be with all the boy-racers" said my sister :rotfl: then my 44 yr old brother who still rides a motorbike piped up "I'll lend you my leathers, then you'll look the part!":rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

:rotfl: Thanks for sharing that with us all! And sorry for laughing, but it is something we were talking about on Monday, after a grandad flew past us on a twisty road doing, what I thought, must have been about 70mph I automatically assumed 'boy racer' too.

  • Well, my own 'old gal racer' was in fact doing 36 in a 30 mph zone, so I guess that's why she can avoid the points by doing the course. The road is near 2 schools, so there could be very bad consequences from speeding at times. We did laugh though. She has to go in September, we're dying to know what it's like!

Just updated signature since the postman has delivered me a beautifully hand made 'thank you' card, along with a £20 Tesco gift voucher, from my lovely friend who was visiting a couple of weeks ago (same one who accompanied me to Isle of Man and we will get around to going to Ireland one day). How ingenious and frugal is that?! :T
Many thanks, G, if you are reading this. :D

Hi, this is something a bit 'out of the blue' but is anybody still using the soapnuts? Everyone was very excited about them at one stage, and I just wondered if many people are using them longterm, and if they are still as pleased?
(I am ashamed to admit mine are still in the cupboard but I will get round to using them sometime soon.) :o

:j Meeeeeeeeee!!! I'm still using them and I haven't bought any laundry detergent at all this year. :T I had 3 bottles of liquid 2-in-1 detergent left in store from last year's stockpile when they did a BOGOF, and I still have 1 bottle left. Judging by the results and quantities used, the £4 spent on soapnuts WILL last me the year and I WILL be continuing to use them on the basis of their being eco-friendly. If you live anywhere that relies on a septic tank, the less chemicals used, the better - I'm in practice for a return to basics as soon as we find the right place. :D
