Baby shampoo here too - apparently most flea shampoos are too harsh for the dog - especially if you use thigns like frontline etc - you don't need both.

Vet recommended the Johnsons baby shampoo.

I normally use puppy shampoo when I finally get him into the bath. Came home once and OH proudly informed me that he had bathed the dog.....with washing up liquid!!! Gave him a stern talking to, i.e how would he like his hair washed with washing up liquid!!

Does anyone else find drying their dog troublesome. I manage to rub mine down with a towel, just before he legs it down the stairs to rub himself up the sides of the sofa to dry himself! Hairdryers are a no go too. He seems to have 2 severe phobias - a hairdryer and a wooden giraffe :o

Thanks for the tip about the baby shampoo - will def give that a go

I always use dog shampoo. Shampoo for humans can strip the natural oils from the dog's coat.

another baby shampoo here (westies tend to have sensitive skin or skin problems and I've only ever used a specialist shampoo on him once)

the bath is then followed by a mad chasing-around-the-bedroom session with the hairdryer and a dusting down with talc !

I don't put loads on, just a bit down his back because that's where he tends to get 'greasy' (I don't go near his face with it)

I just love the smell ;)

I use a hairdryer, follwed by GHD's ;) ......I think baby shampoo should be ok, or perhaps some "natural/orgainic" stuff.

I do the same as Penny Watcher. I give my golden retriever a good rub down with a towel to get most of the water out and then take her for a brisk walk to dry off in the open air. I always bathe her early on in the day so she is completely dry before bedtime.

I read somewhere that using a shamois leather is good for drying dogs....but I'm going to try those super absorbant cloths from Wilkos:p The offspring are in charge of bathing Pup & always grab his towel if I'm not here to remind them to try the cloth, but when we do, I'll report back.

Tomato ketchup/puree is supposed to be very good for removing offensive pongs too, as long as you rinse it off really well cuz of the acid in the toms.
