Dog Shampoo

Is there a difference between dog shampoo and people shampoo ?
I have a friend who is a dog groomer who says there is but doesn't know what or why .....
I'm sure I used to bath my last dog with baby shampoo with no ill effects.
The reason I ask is because my two evil mutts love rolling in horse poo or worse, and often end up being bathed two or three times a week as I think it's mean not to let them off the lead when we're over the fields.
Dog shampoo seems to be at least £2.99 for a small bottle whereas there are loads of bargains for human shampoo.
They have loads of soft fluffy fur so the 'stuff' sticks in very well and they need more than just a rinse !
Thanks

I have always used baby shampoo on my jrt who seems to have the same attitude - if it smells, is sticky or dead he'll roll in it. Hes an all white jack so he looks minging when hes dirty but liek i said i use johnsons baby shampoo on him and hes fine - hes a bit of a tart though and likes to have the hair drier on him after his bath but hes always lovely and soft afterwards.Time to find me again0

Thanks Sammy. I thought I could get away with it.
My two can't stand the hairdryer so I normally end up putting the gas fire on to stop them shivering....what a waste of money. Get so much back from them it's worth it though

I've used baby shampoo (Value/SmartPrice) with our menagerie and they are fine. I put 1-2 drops Lavender oil and 2-3 drops of tea tree oil into one big bottle of shampoo and it seems to keep the fleas away.just in case you need to know:

Another vote here for baby shampoo.
And what's all this about hair driers??? :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::p
Mine get a good rub down with the dog towels and then it's up to them to get themselves dry and any other hairstyling they might want.
Mind you the house is nice and warm in winter so they'll not get a chill.
You cannot live as I have lived an not end up like me.
Oi you lot - please

I've also been known to use washing up liquid when fleabag needed an urgent hose down - didn't seem to do her any harm. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
i like the moiturising lynx shower gel for jess, it tends to be whatever gel i grab when i have man handled her into the bath.0

Hmm not sure about the lynx , if it's like the adverts then we'll be chased by loads of other dogs ....or would it still be lovely young ladies ?

I think my mums dog groomer recommended baby shampoo over dog shampoo because of its gentleness. The early bird gets the worm but the second mouse gets the cheese :cool:0

Used baby shampoo on our puppy tonight in fact. She loves her baths. And now smells much nicer.
Why is it that some dogs smell really doggy and others don't. Our pup stinks to high heaven of dog, no tonight though. In fact I can smell her coming before she gets to me.0 -
Another baby shampoo user here....no hairdryers though - doglet thinks all noisy electrical appliances are Satan's emissaries:rotfl:0
