WOW! I think this is the best I've ever done with the lists. I think it's coz I feel motivated by the fact that downstairs is pretty gleaming, I've never had that before lol.
Update on the health visitor. She seems to think this may be a phase (a very long phase at about a year and a half). She's given me some sheets to fill out to monitor his behaviour and she's coming back next week - so at least I have incentive to keep the house the way it is.Started comping 29/10/2010

(Cue soundtrack to Jaws)Always another chapter0 -
Wow! Sounds like your son (and you) have made fantastic progress with very little help. You're not a fraud and a wuss, it must be very hard to deal with especially without any support from professionals, there's only so much us mums can take, especially when we have other children. Do you have a lot of support from family and friends?
When I was pregnant with DS my scan showed that he had fluid on the brain and that we were looking at having a child with multiple mental and physical disabilities. After he was born he had an MRI scan on his brain and his brain is different in several ways, but we were told he's was "normal" baby. I think I've been in denial that there might be a problem because we've been so lucky that I've just put his bad behaviour down to being a "difficult child". The only thing I mentioned to the hv today was the anger and the violence because that is the main thing that is bothering me. He is an extremely difficult child, but I don't want to tell the hv everything for fear of being told he's not "normal" afterall. Plus like I said earlier, I don't expect him to be perfect, but if I could improve on the violence and calm him down before he gets so angry that there are veins popping out his neck, then most of the other behaviour I could live with.
Sorry to go on again. I seem to start writing on this and just keep going and going. Everyone here seems so nice and non-judgemental that it's easily done. Totally off topic for the board though - sorry ladies!!My youngest son has Aspergers.. we got half a half-witted diagnosis when he was 3 and no help at all since then.. but we get through. He was horrendous at 3.. he would lash out and bite anyone who stood still, refused to toilet train (until he was 6.5!!) couldn't go anywhere or do anything that wasn't written in stone and routine-a-holic is an understatement.
I sometimes wonder how we got through.. he was dreadful.
After a month at nursery they wanted me to pull him out. They would ring me and see me EVERY DAY when I went to collect him.. to the point I would get other people to go get him because I couldn't face it. One day I simply didn't go.. when the school rang to ask where I was I ignored the phone.. until they rang hubby and he went for them. I pretended I had fallen asleep and not woken up until he just got in.. I was pregnant at the time and DD3 had slept all afternoon.
I feel like a total fraud and such a wuss admitting that now.. I've never admitted I did that to anyone else before.. sshhhhhhh...
Now, he is 9. He lacks in some ways, no self confidence, etc but he is fantastic by comparison. The hissy fits are maybe 3-4 times a month.. usually consecutive days. He only lashes out at a couple of the girls.. the ones 19 months either side of him. He can't share.. not good when you have no option. He is very bad at taking turns but is getting better.
Hopefully in another 6 years he will be able to do those things.. but if he isn't he can stay just as he is cos I loves him!Started comping 29/10/2010

This is one of the most supportive threads i've ever come across, there is a wealth of experience in all things child related.
There are a number of us who have children with problems (sorry i hate to use that word but couldnt think of a better one:o ), its nice to be able to relate to other people with similar issues. The trouble with the world is that the stupid are cocksure and the intelligent are full of doubt.Bertrand Russell0 -
I don't have friends.. they require time and I have none to give! The amily accept him for who he is and if he starts getting difficult at family gatherings (which we are NEVER invited to!) I bring him home.. immediately... no questions asked just coat and home.
Obviously you know that the issues you son has may well be down to the anomalies in his brain rather than just the way he is.. sometimes you just need someone else to say yes it could be this, and it is ok to be concerned about it. Given that bit of information I would be asking for a referral to a paed who would have access to the MRI notes and data and could possibly get to the bottom of this sooner rather than later.
rhetorical questions but something to think on... How would this behaviour go down at nursery or in a situation where you weren't there? Are there any other signs something indicate they may be a deeper rooted cause?
in 75% of cases where a child is diagnosed with a disability/problem it is the parents who raise the concern first.. and it usually takes about 2 YEARS from that first contact.. like with your HV today before a firm diagnosis or explanation is given! I've gotten nowhere today
The Asda delivery turned up at 11am and took until 1.30pm to put everything away properly crossing things off to make sure they hadn't forgotten anything. Only things left now are things to go upstairs which are in baskets with the washing thats waiting to go up. I "paused" the washing machine before while I was putting washing out incase the delivery turned up while I was out the back and have only just remembered to put it back on
RIGHT, HHC to clear the dirty dishes and tackle a couple of smaller jobs :wave:Creeping back in for accountability after falling off the wagon in 2016.Need to get back to old style in modern ways, watching the pennies and getting stuff done!0 -
