Shell - my renewal came through at 46ppl which I queried and they reduced to 43ppl. £100 for tank rental per year. Wasn't able to get through on the phone today as I was short on time so couldn't hold long. Will try again tomorrow to get the rental reduced to £60 in line with what others appear to be paying.

I think on balance I'll just renew with Shell as I've had no problems with their customer service/deliveries over the past 2 yrs and the price doesn't appear to be over the top having seen some of the nightmare prices quoted on this thread :) Edit: Oh and I checked the contract which has the 3ppl in 6 months clause.

Looks like a top deal to me. Referance the £100 rental thats a good deal if you use enough gas. At the moment I use very little but it is always worth trying to reduce the rental after all £60 is the standard price. I love the 3ppl max rise in any 6 month period but people say they can break the contract IE if they break the contract you can go elsewhere. Is that right in your case?????????

i think flogas have just increased bulk by 7p ltr, anyone received a letter yet?

    Yep! :(

    Dear Customer,

It is with regret that we have to inform you that the cost of LPG has continued to rise sharply. In the past 6 weeks alone the wholesale price of LPG has increased by 20%. The cost of oil has also continued to rise and is now at a 2 year high.

We have no choice at this time, but to apply an incease of 7 pence per litre to all deliveries made from 11/01/2011.

Should you wish to discuss any details raised in this letter, then please call our Customer Service team on 0116 264 4198

    Yours Faithfully....

Interesting how they use oil prices to justify their hikes as they've never passed on any drop in oil price to me

I have 30% in the 2,000L tank which was filled on 18th Nov. current price is well over 60p with this latest hike. I pay £117/month by Direct Debit and was £500 in credit when the tank was filled.

My contract expires on 20th Jan and I'm currently looking for a new supplier having been with 'the mob' since '96. I have now cancelled the DD and very satisfying it was too :j

I've tried to follow this thread but get only sporadic email notification of a new post so I'm not really up to speed on what's developing. However, I'll be on the phone tomorrow looking for a new supplier.

I'm in Beds. so according to UKLPG there's not a great choice for this area and anyway, I'm usually sceptical of trade associations. I'll post again if I find anything interesting.

Also my thanks to all for contributing such a massive amount of info on this thread. I empathise with the frustration :)

    Hi Ozzysmate,

    Welcome to the forum.

Thanks for posting Flogas's letter - "It is with regret .." I have a box of tissues to hand!

Please post what offers you get. And, as I suggested to Janners (#568), it just might be worth phoning Mole Valley Farmers (see #555). mbday's LPG buying consortium (#541) is locally based (though he didn't say where) and YOBCO oil buying consortium started local but has spread nationally - so there's not a decrease of tanker miles for the supplier to gain from with most deliveries. Maybe others on the forum know of other buying consortia? You might see if there's a local version of Mole Valley Farmers - farmers use a lot of LPG/fuel oil for a lot of applications!

I guess you've clicked on "Thread Tools" at the top of the thread? And then "Subscribe to this thread"? But you need to log in occasionally or else MSE stops sending notifications... which may explain your patchy messages. Also sometimes they get treated as SPAM or partial Spam - I've just found several in my Orange webmail inbox which never got into my regular Outlook box. (Yes, there seems to be quite a hierarchy of Spam!).
  • Hi Ozzysmate,

You might gain by becoming an Associate Member of Anglia Farmers. Their 'patch' includes Beds (they - or rather Calor through them - keep the animals 'happy' at Woburn).

...but it is always worth trying to reduce the rental after all £60 is the standard price...

Sadly, from what I've read and heard, £60 was the standard price up until a few months ago. the current standard annual tank rental now seems to be about £100 - just another way they've worked out to wring more money out of us. But still, this is an important point to watch and a potential "Gotcha". Note, for example, GrandadRob's post of 5th November last year (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=38193694&postcount=294):

This latest reported price rise from Flogas has got me thinking (and snarling) again!

I did post back in December (http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.php?p=39351242&postcount=458) asking whether anyone has a copy of current Flogas contract (i.e. one signed AFTER 13th April 2009, when the Competition Commission order came in to force). Sadly, I had only one response to my initial post, and that wasn't relevant as the contract was too old).

I don't want to say too much more about the way I'm thinking on this, until I've had a chance to read through the offen(ding? sive?) document, for fear of posting mis-information, so I thought I'd ask here again.

Please PM me if you might be able to help :)

I have, for a little while now, been working to create a "map" of UK LPG distribution for use as another supplier search tool. It is still something of a work in progress, but given some of the recent posts, I thought it might be helpful to make it available now.

It is, I think, fairly complete in terms of content (if anyone spots any errors or omissions, please let me know), but there are still some display issues I want to iron out. I have nevertheless decided to "Publish" it as-is as a "BETA" version, so that anyone looking for an alternative source of supply can take advantage of the information.

I have produced it as a KML file, and I have tested it with Google Earth and Google Maps. It may well work with other mapping software, but I make no promises.

Anyway, it can be found at: http://www.lpguser.co.uk/depots.html

To use it, do a "Right Click" -> "Save Target As" (or "Save Link As" if using Firefox), save the file and then load it into Google Earth using "file->open"

    Enjoy :)
  • Thank you to all previous posters... This thread has made very interesting reading... wish I'd found it a few years ago when we moved here & inherited the LPG system.

I've phoned around to get quotes before I feel I may be "forced" to renew with Shell Gas... we have an underground tank that Calor & BP will have not deliver too... Does anyone else have this problem??have also phoned Mole Valley Farmers & am waiting for their paper work.

    Best Regards!

Hi bananabread - welcome to the forum :)

I was just wondering, have either Calor or BP given any reason why they won't supply to your underground tank?
  • Calor gas said that it was because it was a shell gas underground tank ... that doesn't have some sort of restricter overflow cap... to stop them overfilling the tank (I didn't fully understand the issue... but if lorry 1 overfilled our tank, they'd have to send out another lorry to clear it)

    BP didn't give any explanation...

But BP thought they were the only ones not to accept underground tanks & no longer install them... & advised that most of the "big players" would be fine with them... According to UKLPG there are only 5 players locally, Shell, BP, Calor, Flogas & Extra Fuel

Will be doing more research as don't want to be tied to Shell or fork out for new overground tank!
