I tried to report Flogas to trading standards today, but they did not seem interested that they are ripping people off, as long as it didn't say they wouldn't in the contract........
Many thanks for trying trading standards - and letting us all know their reaction - "it's OK if they are screwing you so long as it's in the contract - or at least not against the contract".

    Sad.

But at least Flogas customers know enough prices being charged by them - as well as the prices charged by Extra Fuel and suppliers, big and small, trying to get new customers onto contracts - so you have facts to present to the relevant minister (Hendy? Hendry? - mentioned by HateLPG some time back) if anyone wishes to.
  • Got a call from Flogas today reminding me about my contract ending soon. They offered me 50ppl..........
We had a very polite conversation (it's not the staff's fault) about Flogas and their reputation. The person did know about the bad feeling towards Flogas, and was not surprised we may go elsewhere.

after 5 years with flogas just signed at Lister Gases at 38p per Ltr,but they only cover the midland counties so not sure if this helps you. One nice thing NO CALL CENTRE. you phone the number and they answer and you speak with humans!!! This saved me 20p per ltr x 3,000 ltrs year £600
  • Wrote my epitaph on a wrong thread, but seeing all the above reminds me I MUST NOT RENEW WITH FLOGAS NO MATTER WHAT! As a previous correspondent said I currently have a reasonably full tank and it should last a bit longer - still not put my heating on. I do have a couple of storage heaters in the older part of my house just to keep jack frost at bay which is expensive but not so expensive as having to keep refilling my tank. I cancelled my DD with Flogas and will search comprehensively to find a cheaper source - I am sure there are some about. Sadly some of the companies will not deliver our way as we are apparently too rural. I will keep coming back so please keep updates on prices. Thanks
  • Roxyd.
Go to uklpg.org in the top right hand corner is a link to a postcode search for suppliers who will deliver to you.
    Worked for me.

I believe this is the competition authority Internet site for changing suppliers http://www.uklpg.org/supplier-search/search.php It offered me 7 suppliers, one more than last year when I switched. I changed to Energas (definitely serves Yorkshire & Lincolnshire may serve other places) Also there was a supplier in Manchester who supplied lincolnshire (probably has a depot here) The latter gave there price on the Internet IE was not charging different people different prices. At the time I was paying 53 a litre with flogas (robbers) Energas wanted 37p. Checked a neighbours oil price it was 52p. LPG gives you 7.11 Kw per litre, Oil gives you 10.35 Kw per litre both assume 100% efficiency. So LPG has to be 30% cheaper to be equal. That also assumes Oil and gas boilers are equal as efficiencent??? Either way I was getting my gas at the same price as oil (taking into account the variation in output). An oil tank cost £700 plus fitting?? an lpg tank is nearly always £60 rental. Energas recently informed me that the 2 biggest suppliers (I assume Flogas and Calor) had recently raised there prices and they may have to IE they gave me a warning (I could therefore fill my tank before the price rise) unlike Flogas who send you a letter to inform you it had risen. No one should change to oil from LPG the cost would to be to high relative to the savings unless they either use enough to make it worth it or/and the price difference is just to ludicrous. Remember you can change suppliers every 2 years WITHOUT CHANGING YOUR TANK. THE NEW SUPPLIER BUYS IT OFF THE OLD ONE. PS Back it up with wood if you think you can get a cheap supply or as in my case free. The cost of the wood burner including all fitting costs were less than £2000 it heats my 2 bed bungalow (without radiators) and about an hour or 2 use of the LPG a day (this does heat the radiators). IE nearly paid for itself in one year.

Just for an update, just had my LPG tank filled for the first time, worked out at 37.95p/ltr bwith a £10 quarterly charge. Gloucestershire, this was with BP.

They wanted me to sign up for a 2 year fixed contract, which I saw as pointless, as we are not moving in for another 12 months and I cant imagine burning 2000 ltr in 12 months. LPG will suppliment our stove and we have 3 tonne of firewood chopped and drying out.

Hope this is useful, I think it is disgusting that the LPG suppliers dont display their prices online...

    Regards,

  • For what it is worth, I wrote to my MP and told him the Flogas story, he replied that he had passed my letter onto Vince Cable the Business Secretary for his attention.......................

    So thats sorted then..................:eek::eek::eek:

This looks hopeful! If lots of us write to our MPs - mentioning that Vince Cable has already received correspondence on LPG supply - then maybe something will happen.

When I get home I'll write to my MP, Dan Rogerson (Lib Dem) in Cornwall, about BP .. and saying Vince Cable has already heard about Flogas.

Maybe people will write about Calor? And if there are more letters about Flogas...

I don't think a massive long screed is called for - I'll just be saying BP offered to drop their price from over 53 to just over 42 and I found another supplier who charged me around 36p. Nuff said!

Maybe people will post a short note (on this Bulk LPG thread) when they have written - telling us the MP's name and the supplier(s) they have written about?

A few weeks ago we moved into our house and did the normal check on the prices and Calor/extra gas were the best.

    Calor price matched for us.

Same deal as you re: no price hike for 6 months, free gas and got it at 36.4ppl (lincolnshire area)

We will fill up just before the 6 months just incase it goes up. Can only go up 3ppl in each 6 months though.

Just coming to the end of my contact with Shell Gas. I use almost 5000 litres LPG p.a. and am in North-West England (Wirral). I switched to Shell Gas from Flogas a few years ago as Flogas kept increasing prices during my initial contract. I have just phoned around for prices:
Flogas - 39.0 ppl (initial 6 months) with 75.00 standing charge
Calor - 39.9 ppl (initial 6 months) with 60 pounds standing charge & 100.00 pounds free gas.
Cambrian Gas (local independent) - 41.5 ppl - 40.00 standing charge
    Shell Gas - 38.5 ppl (initial 6 months) - 60.00 standing charge

Although there is not much difference in prices, I will be renewing with Shell Gas because my experience is that they don't hike up the prices during your contract to pay for an initial low price in first 6 months - which is what the other big boys appear to do. My initial price with them was 40.00 ppl and my last delivery this April was still only 43.00 ppl.
