Useful site, however the Energy content (kWh per unit) for LPG at 6.66 is questionable, normally it is quoted as around 7.07 (which is the figure given lower down the table for Propane).

When I questioned them, the 6.66 is the net calorific value for LPG, not the gross value, which is what they are using for Propane and Butane. No explanation was forthcoming, but it means the LPG comparison is not like for like.

Thanks! It's wrong for Notts Energy Partnership to post invalid comparisons - unless they can give a valid reason.

LPG is a variable mix of propane (mostly) and butane, so has a range of calorific values...which should approach 7.07 (or whatever comparison value is given for propane, as you indicate).

Since they quote an efficiency of 90% for LPG they must be considering a condensing boiler, which extracts some of the heat from the condensation of the steam produced as a combustion product (as well as heat from the other hot gases in the exhaust). So I would have thought the gross calorific value would have been the relevant figure. The net value is appropriate when the steam is not condensed and the heat used.

Yes? Maybe there's a heating engineer / physicist on the forum?

I queried these figures back in 2011 - but all I can find is a 'read receipt' from the NEP - the actual useful email trail must be on the hard drive of my previous laptop (and just about inaccessible).

PS More propane in LPG in winter, I believe.

Maybe you ought to be asking them why, rather than us?? :)

That equates to 51.6p per litre so I suggest you take the matter up with your supplier as there is obviously an error in their calculation.

What's the outstanding balance on your account with them?

    Two things here, I think.

Your contract started in January 2013 you say so due for renewal January 2015 - and that could take 42 days if there's a tank change. Mid-winter is the worst time to negotiate - and risk running out of gas if it turns cold. We've just had a very mild winter - so your annual usage could be quite a bit higher if we have a cold start....therefore Avanti want you in a lot of credit in advance. (People come on the forum complaining they cannot switch as they are in arrears - and sometimes in dispute too).

Avantigas wants to enjoy the use of some of your cash! (They won't give you interest on it, I expect).

So, as others have suggested, I'd talk to them. And offer a reasonably increased DD to cover for a possible hard winter. Good luck!

Maybe someone has experience of a better Avantigas policy with DDs?

weefur1975, please let the forum know how this pans out?
