Months and months after buying the book and then ignoring it, our breadmaker is on its way out. I wouldn't care but my DH refuses to learn to make dough from scratch, so I figure this might be the way forward - if there's always dough in the fridge he can just pull a bit out, shape it, let it rise and bake it. Currently he is happy(ish) making dough in a breadmaker and then shaping it and baking it in the oven.
Just made up a batch of dough for the first time and it's sitting on the sofa beside me rising, but it's just so wet in comparison with "normal" dough that I'm not convinced it'll work.
Almost every day! I have been making bread this way since I first found out about it some years ago. My DH is able to make bread very easily - and has to at the moment because I have a broken foot and am slightly challenged in the kitchen department! Yes, it is a wet-ish mix, but once you've shaped it for baking and given it a second rise, it bakes beautifully. If you have the time to leave it, then a few hours chilling in the fridge makes a difference too. Good luck! Forgot to say, using bread flour, maldon salt or similar and fast acting (not dried) yeast all make the dough work better.:jMoney saving eco friendly Fertility reflexology specialist :j0 -
OMG, it worked! I can't believe that soggy pile of doughy looking stuff turned into a gorgeous (if slightly mis-shapen) loaf of bread! I'll try and post a photo before we scoff it...0
