I am loving this challenge!

I am really thinking about making meals go further and not wasting food. I now have a chest freezer, and stocked it with some basics from iceland today. I have stocked up on booze, toiletries and cleaning stuff for at least a month.

I know it isn't going to be a cheap month, due to stocking up but I am keeping all my receipts and I am really looking forward to actually knowing how much I spend (I guessed at around £650/month) and having some kind of routine. I am also enjoying actually reading my receipts and being able to compare prices and consider the cost of recipies and work out where is the best place to shop for certain things.

I am going to be SO pleased if I come in at £400 this month (which I know is still pretty bad) and waste nothing!

Not had time to read the posts lately as Ive been so busy at home and at work. Didnt cook too much last week and OH actually missed it! Asked me to do a nice big pasta meal. Made some HM bread the other day and got asked what happened to it. It got eaten in 10 minutes so dissappeared! Must put BM on again tonight as Ive been hoarding flour for some reason and not only is the cupboard full but the worktop is also! Got loads of whoopsies the last few days-just need to add them into my spending diary. Overspent last month so Im thinking Ive probably aimed too low as the previous months I had loads left over but it evens out over time and as Ive stocked up a lot in the past it is probably due to the fact Ive now used up the old stuff.
Keeping the totals in a spreadsheet so I can work out an annual budget next year based on fact rather than fiction!
Annual Grocery budget 2018 is £1500 pa £125 calendar month £28.84 pw for 3 adults

Well todays NSD did not happen as we needed cat food  . Spent a grand total of £3.17 in the Coop, on two cans of cat food (49p each), two packs of half price cold meat (60p each), and a half price pack of strawbs (99p) .
Will need milk tomorrow, other stuff later on in the week (toms, fruit etc).
Slow cooker spag bol was a success and enough left to freeze for next weeks veggie/mince lasagne as hoped, and also enough kept for Thur to add chilli bits too. Great idea adding lentils to it :D ....mmmm DS, DH and me all scoffed it!

[Freezing soup- I usually line a mug with a sandwich bag and pour the soup into it. Tie the top then pop it into the freezer. If I'm really organized I remember to put the whole thing into the freezer so that I keep the shape of it and it takes less space.
what a fantastic idea. i put mine in bags and they froze a funny shape. thanks for that karen

I would love to join this month as DH and I are trying to pay back the money he spent on our honeymoon!
So here we go....
I have just gone through the fridge and found loads to cook and sort out that were bought last week, so should be able to cut down quite a lot for the next month. Also all the tips will just spur me on, i have already made some artisan bread and it tastes lovely :)
I will head to boots some time this week and use advantage points to buy toothbrushes and some shampoo, so will hopefully not spend anything. It all helps!

Good luck to everyone and lets see how we all do this glorious month of July.
:)

Have made HM rolls, HM Tortillas, individual bakewells, shortbread and Twinks Hobnobs for the lunch boxes this week and made extra for the Freezer so hoping we can make the reduced target this month:o

Also, forgot to mention that I found some Minced lamb in the freezer which I have today used to make Samosas, used the remaining Filo pastry from the Salmon Parcels on Saturday, however, had a problem making them into Triangle Samosa shapes - can anyone tell me how I should have folded them to make them into the right shape:confused::confused: - just telling myself that they still taste good no matter what shape but would be good if I could get it right. Have left them to cool and put in the Freezer to use on picnics in the School Hols.

Good luck to everyone, make the most of this great weather.:j
you are an inspiration...
maybe its because i have a dd just 3 and an 11mnth running around that i find anything other than throwing something in the bm or slow cooker a nightmare and these things can only be done if the baby sleeps.

i have mangaed to make two loaves of bread today. one half eaten already!!
a sausage casserole for the freezer.
some pizza dough for tommorrow nights pizza.
im about to put some cheese twists in the oven.
so for me thast massive and im knackered. kids all downstairs now that the eldest is home and im hiding for a mo!!

also made dinner, cleaned dishwasher and washing machine and got rid of stuff on freecycle.

would like to do more baking but will have to accept little ones get too bored...

hope everyone is ok.

karen
