  • Just a quick update on my spends for the past few days:
Wed - £1.50 on milk and butter (BOGOF) I only popped to Mr M as I needed milk but thought I might be able to get 2 more packs of 50p cheese - they'd sold out.
Thurs - £10 on M&S two can dine.. I got a bottle of red (to put away to go towards Dad birthday present next month) a cooked chicken, new potatoes and 2x choc souffles (SP?). This is for a quick tea and treat for tonight. We are going to charity night in memory of OH work colleague who died suddenly last week. We will have the chicken, new pots with roasties, yorkshire puds from the freezer, and the choc puds. I have already attacked the chicken and put half in freezer, the other half will be for tonights tea, pizza topping on sunday and either wraps or chicken fried rice on monday - I may have to put some more in freezer tonight to keep until mon.
Today - I have spent 49p on an apple and banana on my way into work as I didn't have any breakfast.

    Total - £11.99

75p on an onion and a pepper and 54p  on a pint of milk.

It is getting to be beyond a joke with the way prices are going. It's verging on impossible to feed a family a wholesome diet that's equivalent to the Recommended Daily Allowance of everything 'they' state and if it wasn't for pasta and tinned tomatoes, sticking to a grocery budget would be impossible for me. Of course, a major supermarket within easy travelling distance would help. It's quite exciting waiting for the new Aldi store, which is being built in town about 7 miles from where I live. :o

Can't declare my totals yet as I need to wait until 31st but I'll be in again with August target £40. Hoping not to spend for the next week. We now use powdered milk for almost everything - even cereal. 'Real' milk is becoming a treat and DS now grumbles when there are no homemade cakes or biscuits rather than look for shop bought ones as they are 'boring'! :rotfl:
I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

I've updated my sig again. Spent £4.74 yesterday on loads of reduced crisps, butter 20p and 2 cans of drink. It was incredibly hot and we had to go and pick up DD from school so I bought them each a drink.
We went out for tea last night and I'd got out pies so we'll have them tonight with salad and wedges.
I'm going to pop to Mr M later to get some of the grated cheese but don't really need anything else except ?milk.
Don't need to bother about buying any bread now for ages as DD breaks up today so can have whatever for lunch so DH won't just go and buy bread.
Had the mother of all storms this morning and I'd been a lazy baggage and left my washing on the line last night cause I was so tired! Ah well- it's making my courgettes and cucumbers grow!

ETA: forgot to highlight my figures for angelnikki. July total £313.15 so August budget is £286.85

We always give simple linctus at night to our patients. 5mls mixed with about 1/2 cup hot water to soothe the irritation.
Generally not best to take it all day long so you're not surpressing anything that should be coming up.

Just popped in to update my sig after my trip to Sainsbury's with MIL. Have spent another £21 on a piece of gammon and veg and a few other things. Will have the gammon done in the sc on Sunday and it will do cold with salad on Monday. Tuesday is DH's birthday but instead of going out I am going to treat him (and myself) to an M&S eat in for £10 package - not part of the gc as would have been from the eating out budget. DD1 and DD2 coming home next weekend for a family celebration, but that will come out of August's budget. Am close to declaring for July but don't want to tempt fate, so will wait till next Wednesday as August challenge will start for me on 31st.

Good luck everyone and have a good weekend. Hope the sun shines on one and all.

    Love Moniker

PS Meant to say to the person who was asking about which BM to buy that I have recently bought a Cookworks model only £23-99 from Argos, which works fine. I had a Breville Compact one before that but the sprockets (technical term!) which held the bread pan in place broke after about 18 months use. The Cookworks one gave off a lot of smoke on firts use which was a bit alarming but was to do with oil burning off the element and as I had been forwarned about this by a review on the internet it was ok. Seems to need less yeast than the previous model to make the same recipes - I find the Breville recipes work better than the ones which come with the Cookworks instructions, but it is a bit of trial and error really - HTH.

    Hi,
Hope its ok to post this link.

It's my iced buns from the recipe here (did hlaf quantities and got 13 small ones)- so happy they worked out, if a bit untidy! Sprinkled coconut on top too mmmmmmmmm. Made the ieed buns, DS porridge, started making the 'cottage pie', did all DS ironing, now just need to re-pot some things. Anyone know how to get rid of green fly on edible herb plants ?
    Wish we had MrM here.
    Ta ta for now.
PS Its my birthday soon, wonder if it would be really sad to suggest a top up of all my fave flours and baking stuff from Tesco for my birthday ? hmmmmmmm
