Iceland only accepting Passports as ID now...

I think its fair enough.
Facing a £1000 fine and a criminal record does concentrate the mind about who is old enough.
You must look young enough for them to require ID. I've seen fake i.d.s that look real including driving licenses.
Its their discretion whether they sell you anything at all, alcohol or not.
Try looking from their position.0 -

They've recently changed the design of driving licences, I wouldn't be surprised if that's what's causing the confusion and an apparent increase in what they think are fake licences.Lyndsay_21 wrote: »I went yesterday into our local iceland with 2 of my friends to get food and booze for a party they are having and the lad on the till (who was showing off in front of us anyway) asked us all for id, i was not purchasing any alcohol only they where, all i had was a bag of steam veg yet he refused to serve the other 2 unless they had id because they might give it to me. me and one of the other girls didnt have any on us so we had to go through the whole palaver of waiting for the manager, who barely looked at us and said ok!!!! Grrr
Nothing wrong with this really, if 3 people are together and you don't think they're over 18 then it's reasonable to refuse a sale on the basis that you believe the one with ID could be buying for the other 2.Bought, not Brought0 -
I had a similar issue. Was trying to buy beer in asda and they asked for ID, so I gave them my provisional licence (which is the same as a full, only green right?) and they said they wouldn't except it, only a full driving licence or a passport.
We asked to speak to the manager who said exactly the same thing.
Funny thing is a few weeks later they stopped doing it and now take provisionals again....0 -

Admitted its descretion and common sense, but ultimatley i think the onus has to be on the one holding the ID. And to limit it to a passport is ridiculous, not everyone has a passport, even less want to risk carrying their passport around, its too valuable an assett. I drivers licence should be sufficiant, if its a fake, its not the store that is responcible, unless they sell them over the counter.:A:dance:1+1+1=1:dance::A

i could understand if one of us was obviouly under 18 but in fact 2 of us are 26 and the other person was 30 so hardly just past our teens.Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts0 -

I got this reply
"I can confirm that our stores accept the following as proof of identification -
Valid Passport
Full UK Driving Licence
ID card
Thank you once again for contacting us."
Perhaps it's only the ones around here that are clamping down? The reply I got stated that they had spoken to the manager of the store in question and he/she had confirmed it."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."

I don't think it's safe to carry a passport around with you. Why would they not take a driver's license? That's daft!0

Isn't it usually the International drivers licences that are often fraudulent, not the uk ones?0
-
Why are places not happy to take a provisional? I ended up getting one as it was cheaper than a passport and I have no intention of going abroad. But my licence number has my date of birth in it, so what's the problem with provisionals?
(Shabby National seem happy to take it as ID)0 -

I've got one of the newer ones as well, that has all those holograms and security stuff, so I don't see how anyone could fake one well."Beautiful young people are accidents of nature, But beautiful old people are works of art."
